We have all been there before, investing our time, energy, and heart into someone that doesn’t reciprocate to the level that you deserve. It’s the hardest realization and even more painful to accept the fact that someone you love may not love you back. Contrary to what we like to believe because we are so good at inflicting pain upon ourselves, it has nothing to do with your worth or whether you are good enough. Doing more things to please the other person, trying to get their attention, changing yourself to be what you think they want you to be also will not make them reciprocate love anymore than they already have shown. It is difficult to come to terms with the fact that you have no control yet it is here that you get to choose to show yourself love by acknowledging that you deserve more and the breadcrumbs that you have been receiving are in fact not enough because when people love you, you will not have to wonder, second guess, or even question their love for you. They will do everything in their power to make sure you feel it, know it, and mirror back to you how valuable and extraordinary you are for just being you.

It took decades to build the pyramids that stood the test of time. Just imagine how much it took for people to wall up themselves to guard their hearts from hurts. We often judge strong people as cold, aloof, or heartless but do you know that those people often turn out to be the most sensitive and they had learn along the way that feelings are scary and too painful to confront. We humans are wired to survive. To this end, the strongest bunch learn to not allow room for that which makes them vulnerable and they do so through many means albeit suppression, distractions, and/or rejection. These methods work to a certain degree but they can have great impact on other areas of life such as mood, overall sense of satisfaction, and relationships. It takes a heart to see a heart. Without real vulnerability, it’s impossible to have meaningful connections with others and the relationship remains stagnant or superficial. If you have been on this path and feel unhappy, perhaps it is time to accept that you too have a heart, needs, and feelings. It starts with you acknowledging these things for real change to occur.

What do you see first in this picture? Yup, most people would say, the black dot ⚫️. That’s the thing, humans are socialized to see the negative before the positive. We are good at detecting what is wrong rather than what is right. Now compare the dot to the rest of the picture. That one dot is so minute compared to the sparkly white background; yet it’s the first thing that jumped out at us. In our lives, this dot can represent an obstacle, a stressor, or simply something that has gone wrong in our day. We can mull over this little dot or choose to see the bigger picture of everything else that is present. Perspective taking is definitely an influence on daily mood. There is always more than one way to look at a situation. So which choice will be yours?

We are so great at giving love and compassion to others but often we neglect to extend the same courtesy to ourselves. On this day of Love, don’t forget the person that deserves your love the most - yourself! Find at least one thing today that is positive about yourself and how such trait positively impacts others in your life. Write it down somewhere, and when you have those moments of self-loathe, self-doubt, go back and read it to remind yourself that you too are lovable and worthy! ❤️

Every time you feel worried, you have a choice to dwell in those negative thoughts which makes you more anxious/uneasy or stop those thoughts and take actions towards that which will make you feel calm and accomplished. Remember that worrying does not change the outcome but acting does.

Holiday season is great but it also can be anxiety provoking with everyone rushing to get tasks done before the end of the year.
