Lipedema and Lymphedema are often confused, but they’re not the same condition.
👉 Lipedema is a chronic fat disorder that primarily affects women, and causes symmetrical fat buildup in the legs and/or arms. It’s often painful, resistant to diet and exercise, and commonly misdiagnosed as simple weight gain.
👉 Lymphedema, on the other hand, is a lymphatic system disorder caused by impaired lymph flow. It leads to fluid retention, swelling (often asymmetrical), skin changes, and a feeling of heaviness, most commonly after surgery, injury, or lymph node damage.
While these conditions are different, they can coexist. Many patients with Lipedema develop secondary Lymphedema over time, making early diagnosis and proper treatment essential.
Understanding the difference is the first step toward real relief, not dismissal.
If you’ve been told “just lose weight” and yet know something isn’t right, you’re not alone. Education changes outcomes!👏✨
