After graduating Summa Cum Laude from UCLA and medical school at UC-Irvine, he moved to world renowned Cleveland Clinic for ophthalmology residency, where he was selected Chief Resident. Dr. Taban moved back to Los Angeles for a 2-year oculofacial cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery fellowship at the prestigious Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA. He then pursued further fellowship training in rhinoplasty and cosmetic facial surgery under Dr. Ronald Strahan in Santa Monica, CA. Dr. Mehryar (Ray) Taban is one of the few triple board certified oculoplastic surgeons, in addition he is also a facial plastic surgeon and ophthalmologist who is dedicated to his practice and his patients. Dr. Taban specializes in cosmetic and reconstructive eyelid and facial plastic surgery where he uses the latest technology, including minimal incision techniques, to provide quicker recovery times and natural outcomes. FAT LOSS will inevitably cause someone to look older. One important area is the upper eyelid area. The most common causes of upper eyelid hollowness (fat loss) are natural aging, AGGRESSIVE upper blepharoplasty, weight loss, and certain glaucoma drops (or byproducts such as Latisse). (I’m not here to say what the true cause is for these 2 beautiful/handsome celebrities.) Treating the sunken hollow upper eyelids will have dramatic improvements in someone’s appearance. Thankfully there are 2 treatment options: upper eyelid filler injection versus fat injection. Seeing an expert is important to first prevent upper eyelid hollowness from happening (as during upper blepharoplasty) and second to treat it when it happens.
