I have often said running is like Prozac, Adderral and Xanax all rolled into one. I start out with a mind full of worries and end with lessons. Today three stood out most.

1. This weeks events reminded me that life is precious my friends. I know you know. But try hard today to live like you know.

2. I was reminded of a lesson I learned while breastfeeding as a resident. Your capacity is directly proportional to the challenges that lay before you.

3. Life is hard, beautiful and absurd. Don’t take yourself too seriously.

Here’s me today at mile 5. I look pretty good right?? Yeah well you should have seen me 6.2 miles later 😛

Next stop 13.1 🙌

Ok so l lied. Last week when I thought I ran 8 miles it was really only 7 which meant that I couldn’t run 10 miles this week so I ended up running 9 🏃🏻‍♀️and this is what I learned. One lesson for every mile.
1. What you think you can do is really just a matter of what you think.
2. If at mile 5 you’re sure you’re going to die, somewhere around 6.5 you’ll catch a burst of energy that makes you believe you could run 20—only to feel near death again a quarter mile later.
3. Weight training really does increase stamina. To my midlifers out there, if you haven’t started lifting yet- here is your reminder to start.
3.Cars will never look before turning into traffic. Assume they won’t, or you’ll get run over.
4. No one tells you how humbling it is to be passed by a stroller.
5. Chafing is the universe’s way of keeping you humble.
6. You will bargain with yourself at every mile. Eventually just the next block magically becomes just finish the damn thing. 😓
7. Running is basically couple’s therapy between you and your voices in your head. If you run long enough you make peace with each other.
8. Every run is a full emotional arc — denial, bargaining, surrender, and finally… grace.😔
9. A one from last week… you can do hard things!

Next up 11 miles then the half 12/29/25!

Here we goooooo!🙌

Wahoo!!!
Thousands of us dedicated to are gathered at the annual conference in Atlanta excited to hear the news of price drops for these drugs🎉
These drugs appear to have tremendous benefits for
🧘🏻‍♀️weight loss
🍸alcohol use disorder
🚬addiction
🧠dementia risk
🫀cardiovascular diseases including heart attack and stroke
☄️ reduced inflammation
But also can have adverse effects including data presented at today showing that interruptions and discontinuations have consequences including increases in inflammation and CVD risk.
Here’s my advice-
Be informed
Find a knowledgeable physician.
I wouldn’t give you Botox, breast implants or chemo-
You should not get prescribed by your dermatologist, dentist or butcher.
Unless they are trained in obesity medicine 🤷🏻‍♀️

Emotional eating is just a form of reactivity- like lashing out, compulsive drinking, shopping, working…
It comes from an underlying emotion that is driving the show. Here’s a practice
Step 1: pause before reacting
Step 2: ask yourself what is the underlying emotion- be as specific as you can. Just labeling will lessen reactivity in the amygdala
Step 3: offer yourself a self soothing practice. Hand on heart is my personal favorite.
Step 4: Feel where that emotion is in your body. Take a few breathes. Remind yourself that even if the emotion is difficult you can tolerate it. All the while breathing, offerring yourself soothing touch and words of reassurance. Remind yourself hard as it may be you can tolerate difficult emotions.
Step 4: Notice that desire to react might ease.
Remember this is a practice. You may still snap at your child or grab that Halloween candy but chances are with practice you will become less reactive and more intentional.

It’s on baby 🔥
A few weeks ago my eldest asked my to join her in a half marathon - to which I answered ummm, no thanks.
It’s been almost 13 years since I ran my last race and I hadn’t run for months.
But then I ran 6.5 miles with her and it felt pretty good. Today I ran 8 and some change.
So here goes!
I have 27 days to get to 13.1 🏃🏻‍♀️
Thanks to for reminding me I can do hard things 💪🏼 and to you for keeping me accountable.
convinced me to buy the cancel insurance. Let’s make sure I don’t use it 🙌🏼

Our hunger represents our unmet physical, emotional, spiritual, and relational needs.
When these needs go unmet we are more likely to be reactive.

🧍🏻‍♀️🧍🏽‍♂️Physical hunger longs for rest, movement, nourishment, and regulation — the basic bodily needs that support your physical health and vitality.

💗Emotional hunger seeks validation, belonging and comfort — the reassurance that our inner world is seen and valued.

☯️ Spiritual hunger yearns for purpose, and meaning or faith and surrender — connection to something larger than ourselves.

👩‍❤️‍👨Relational hunger desires attention, connection, and intimacy — the bonds that remind us we are not alone.

When these hungers go unmet, we become reactive — quick to anger, to craving, to withdrawal.
But when we feed them intentionally, they become the foundation of resilience, presence, and self-respect.

Hunger for more is not a personal failure but hardwired in our biology- something psychologist call the hedonic treadmill- the tendency to adapt to success-momentarily- only to reach out for more. Constantly reaching for a moving target 🎯 leaving us discouraged and disenchanted.

We have been conditioned to view hunger as something to suppress - but what if your hunger is a signal of something deeper.
✨Hunger for rest when you are depleted from giving to everyone else
✨Hunger for belonging when you are stuck in a loop of disconnection
✨Hunger for validation that keeps you chasing success.

Your body is trying to get your attention.

You don’t need to silence your hunger.
You just need to listen.

We are reactive, quick to respond to a threat, a craving, an unkind word or an undesirable situation. This reactivity is hard wired in our nervous system and perpetuated by our news feed, our social media, and our amazon app. But when we cultivate the ability to pause between trigger and reaction, between desire and habitual response, we reclaim our agency, free will and choice. In that space, we uncover the ability to act, not react. To live, lead and love with intention and clarity of mind.

Our Resilient Minds cohort has begun! 8 weeks to learn MindBody skills to ✨manage reactivity ✨reduce stress
✨boost resilience
✨enhance emotional regulation.
Waitlist now open for January cohort. DM us for details 🌟

One of the things I love most about what I do is agency- the fact that we have the power to begin anew - every new year, every new moon, every Monday and with every breath.
To turn over a new leaf and choose a new way of relating to our habits, to our partners, to our communities and to the world around us.
Shana Tova to all my brothers and sisters. Wishing you an open mind and open heart in the year to come.

I’ve experienced a lot of death and dying as a physician.
I’ve done chest compressions on people who never came back to life.
I’ve called time of death on more code blues than I can remember.
I administered morphine to my grandfather in his final days on hospice.
And I reassured my cousin to go in peace minutes before her last breath.
But seeing that video shook me.
Because we are not meant to witness that kind of horrific violence, nor were we meant to just keep scrolling on by…
If you are feeling unsettled, off, distracted, irritable, distraught…
that’s your humanity speaking to you.

Connect with the humans around you. A friend, family member, mentor, confident.

And if you need help remember there are resources out there to help you 🙏
