I answer a lot of DMs about recovery, and this one comes up often: Is there a wrong way to sleep after surgery?

The answer is yes.

After facial procedures, head elevation and back sleeping are key. Sleeping flat or on your side can increase swelling and create asymmetry during healing.

Back sleeping at roughly 45 degrees for the first 10–14 days helps protect your results and supports even recovery.

One thing patients don’t always expect after a facelift is the emotional ups and downs.

Around days 5–7, swelling, bruising, numbness, and temporary changes in how your face feels can create a moment of doubt. Patients sometimes look in the mirror and think, What did I do? Am I ever going to look normal again?
