The internet loves to debate SMAS vs. deep plane, but if you’re choosing between SMAS and deep plane based only on “which lasts longer,” you’re asking the wrong question.

There’s no evidence one definitively lasts longer than the other.

Instead, focus on:
✨ Who is performing your surgery
✨ What technique they specialize in
✨ What their long-term results look like

Board certification matters.
Long-term follow-up photos matter.
Natural, balanced results matter.

Don’t focus on the name of an operation versus focusing on the expertise behind it.

I answer a lot of DMs about recovery, and this one comes up often: Is there a wrong way to sleep after surgery?

The answer is yes.

After facial procedures, head elevation and back sleeping are key. Sleeping flat or on your side can increase swelling and create asymmetry during healing.

Back sleeping at roughly 45 degrees for the first 10–14 days helps protect your results and supports even recovery.
