👣 Why we start every class with Footwork 👣

If you’re new to Pilates Reformer, this might surprise you: sessions traditionally begin with your feet!

Here’s why:

Your feet are packed with nerve endings. They send messages to your brain about balance, posture, and how your body is moving. When your feet feel supported and active, your whole body moves better.

On the Reformer, The Footwork Series:
• Gently warms your body up with deep breathing and full body integration
• Helps activate different leg muscles by varying up the foot and ankle position
• Stimulates the hip, knee and ankle joints to move smoothly through full range of motion
• Improves balance and awareness of spinal and shoulder alignment
• Sets your body up for safer, stronger movement the rest of the workout

Even though you’re lying down, your feet act like anchor points. As you press into the bar, your body starts to line itself up—from your feet, through your legs and core, all the way up to your neck.

Think of footwork like turning the lights on before you start your workout. 💡

It helps your body wake up, organize itself, and get ready to move well.

That’s why we teach it every time.

Simple. Intentional. Powerful.

Pilates isn’t just about strong muscles.
It supports your nervous system too. 💛

Research shows Pilates can help reduce stress, anxiety, and low mood—while helping people feel calmer in daily life.

Why?
✔️ Focused breathing
✔️ Slow, controlled movement
✔️ Mind–body awareness

You don’t need an injury or diagnosis to benefit.
Pilates can support both your body and your mind.
