Are you showing up and going through the motions?!

I suppose you're "beating everyone on the couch"...but is your current effort level really helping you achieve any of your goals?

Step 1. Show up
Step 2. Put in the effort

You've got to put in the work if you want to drive adaptation in the body and make some positive changes.

Here are 12 IV members showing you what showing up and putting in real effort looks like. Be like these folks.

Where in the world is Iron Village?!

IV members - travelled outside of the 01915 and got some Village gear on? Snap some pics and send them our way. We love to see the double spikes out in the world!

We've had folks all over the world! Nepal. India. Dubai. Bahrain. Italy. Let's keep it going!

Meet Kieran!

Join us in welcoming Kieran Mackay to the IV community! Coming in with a background in personal training, group fitness, and sports performance, Kieran has a wealth of knowledge and is an awesome addition to the team.

We asked Kieran some hard-hitting questions:
1. Favorite exercise - Zercher Squats

2. Favorite activity outside the gym - Beach, hiking & camping, cooking

3. You go to your favorite restaurant, what are you ordering - Bacon cheeseburger & sweet potato fries

4. One thing you are grateful for - My girlfriend Kim and my dog Jack

5. What's one thing folks might not know about you - My mom is from the Netherlands and I love to visit

I was put on this earth to help people take control of their bodies & become more confident in themselves. Looking good, moving well, and becoming more resilient for life’s challenges are the pillars of my approach to fitness. In my opinion there is nothing more rewarding than helping someone build a strong body and mind. I hope I can help demystify the confusing world of health by creating a simple but challenging environment for my clients to progress in.

Be sure to introduce yourself to Kieran when you see him at the gym! πŸ™Œ

Geez I ramble a lot! Sorry about that.

The goal was to "briefly" chat about our current program happening here at IV.

If you don't feel like listening to me for 8 minutes (I'll tighten these up!) here's a breakdown:
Monday - hip hinge, press, lunges, hip mobility
Tuesday - zone 2-3 recovery focus
Wednesday - pullups, squats, rows, short high-intensity cardio
Thursday - zone 2-3
Friday - partner "fun"

Another option --> come on in and try out a class!!

The moral of the story; have a plan. Stop going to the gym and just going through the motions on the same 3 machines you use every time you are there. Follow a results-driven, periodized program that pushes you towards your goals.

In our programming, we typically have short, HIGH effort outputs (6 to 15 seconds) once a week.

Every now and then, we go off script and throw a 60-second "all out" effort in.

What does a "HIGH effort" output look like? Enter exhibit A...Liam.

We have a Challenge Board at the gym and this is the shortest one on there. It's also the most miserable, if done properly.

Liam did it properly.

The record before this recording was 58 cals. After Liam finished...it's now 69! 🀯

Hey - we know you've got a 50-cal challenge...got a 60-second one as well??

- you're up.

Hell of an effort Liam! Even Mozzie was impressed πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Strength training is one of the most powerful tools a runner can use to improve performance and stay healthy. By building stronger muscles, tendons, and connective tissue, runners improve force production with every stride β€” meaning more speed, better efficiency, and less wasted energy. A well-designed strength program enhances hip stability, core control, and single-leg balance, all of which translate directly to smoother, more powerful running mechanics.

Beyond performance, strength training significantly reduces injury risk. Stronger glutes, hamstrings, calves, and core muscles help absorb impact, protect the knees and hips, and improve alignment under fatigue. Instead of breaking down as mileage increases, your body becomes more resilient. The result? You run faster, recover better, and stay consistent β€” which is ultimately what leads to long-term progress.

Our 6-week program will improve your running.

Our anniversary trivia was a nailbiter this year...two people got all 10 questions correct which means it came down to the tiebreaker.

And the winner for 2026 is....Brett!!

We ask a handful of questions every year on our anniversary. We keep a couple "staple" questions (Security manager, origin story...) and some of the answers are amazing.

The top wrong answer regarding the Iron Village origin story goes to
"Growing up, Doug wanted to be a blacksmith"

Thanks to everyone who participated! I plan to make next year's questions bigger, better, and more challenging!

Do you find yourself going to the gym and doing the same 3-4 machines every time you're there?

Or, just hopping on the treadmill or bike because the equipment you love is being used?

Or walking into the gym without a plan on what to do?

If only there was a place that took care of all of that for you...πŸ€”

We prioritize three primary components when it comes to our programming;
1. Strength training
2. Conditioning
3. Mobility

The programming is broken up into 6-week blocks where we track numbers and monitor progress. Measurement equals motivation.

We use "template-based" programming when it comes to our planning. If we have the "Deadlift" exercise on the board, we don't push everyone into the same exercise. We suggest everyone perform some sort of hip hinge pattern...that could be:
- Conventional straight bar
- Sumo stance
- Trap bar
- RDL variations with bells, bands, or a bar
- Glute drive machine
- Bridge pattern off the floor

The results will come. If you do.

Establish some goals. Show up and put in the work. Good things will happen.
