Jaw pain gets treated fast… but not always thoughtfully 😬
Botox is one option, but it works by weakening the muscle. That can reduce pain, but it also comes with trade-offs like decreased muscle activity and potential long-term changes in how the jaw functions.
A clinical study comparing Botox and acupuncture for TMJ pain found that both reduced pain, but Botox was not more effective.
The difference is in how they work.
Acupuncture focuses on circulation, muscle tension, and nervous system regulation without shutting the muscle down. It’s a different approach, one that supports function while addressing pain.
If you’re dealing with TMJ, clenching, or jaw tension, it’s worth looking at all your options 💭
