HEALTH TIPS OF THE WEEK!!

The dangers of too much SUGAR INTAKE

The average American ingests too much sugar a day.
Sugar makes your organs fat.
Added sugar damages your LIVER.
FRUCTOSE is a component of table sugar and high fructose corn syrup.

(CHECK YOUR FOOD LABELS!)
Try to avoid drinks with a lot of added sugar.
(THIS INCLUDES YOUR HEALTHY SOUNDING SMOOTHIE).
You are better off eating FRUIT, and blend up frozen unsweetened fruit, which is surprisingly sweet.
If you go buy a commercial smoothie, some contain 13 ½ teaspoons of sugar.

THIS IS TOO MUCH!!
DIABETES rise when you eat too much sugar.
The sugar is hidden in many of our foods
(KETCHUP, BEEF JERKY, BREAD, FROZEN DINNERS) to name a few.

BLOOD PRESSURE!!
rises when you eat too much sugar.
STROKES are the #1 cause of death among DIABETES 2.
There is a connection between DEPRESSION and eating sugary sweets.
Too much sugar gives you WRINKLES AND SAGGY SKIN.
Sugar and ALZHEIMERS is linked.

Check the label!
Anything ending in -Ose or syrup is sugar.
Try not to overindulge in sugary fatty foods, which set off Alzheimer's.
There is a bad connection between sugar and CHOLESTEROL. Come down to healthcare home and speak with Michael, Alora, or our fabulous nurses.
If you are craving sweets, try organic chocolate with 70%CACAO. TALKE A 15 MINUTE WALK OR COME DOWN TO THE WELLNESS CENTER!!
Also, DONT SKIP BREAKFAST! When you eat breakfast, it helps keep your blood sugar levels favorable.
Try not to exceed 5 teas.
Sugar, for women; 9teas.sugar for men; and 3 teaspoons of sugar for kids.
So, change your habits SLOWLY.
Drink less full sugary drinks, and give the rest away, or make sure you portion control your drinks.

If your fridge is packed with sweets or desserts, eat a little today/ and tomorrow, give it away.

START EATING YUMMY SWEET FRUITS (GRAPES, MANGOES, BERRIES). YUM! If you need a little sweetness, try a little HONEY, ONE TEAS A DAY IF YOU NEED A PICK ME UP.

YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

Healthy tips of the week!!

PROTEIN FOOD CHOICES!

Meats
Poultry
Fish
Seafood
Beans
Peas
Soy products
Nuts
Seeds

Protein helps your body build maintain and repair tissues!
Try to skip the high fat sauces, dressings, gravies, and high fat meats like sausages, hot dogs, bacon, bologna, fatty cuts of beef, pork, and lamb.

AND, YES, I KNOW HOLIDAYS ARE AROUND THE CORNER...
Ways to cook protein include broiling, grilling, roasting, poaching, boiling, even AIR frying, but stay away from regular frying, and breading (on a regular basis).

GREAT VEGETARIAN PROTEINS: TOFU, SEEDS, NUTS, BEANS, PEAS. If you are a lactulose vegetarian, many get protein from eggs and dairy foods like milk, yogurt, and cheese.

(BUT WATCH OUT FOR THOSE HIGH FAT CHEESES)!

Remember, holidays are all about fun, family, friends, and of course, the food, but it's not just the food!!!!

HEALTHY TIPS OF THE WEEK!

It's holiday season!

It's time to gather with friends, family, clubhouse members and staff ......to enjoy.
It's time to really take care of yourself. If you're going to a party, don't go hungry. Bring a dish that you can enjoy, especially if you have allergies.
For the day of the 'big ' meal make sure you eat breakfast. Again, don't go hungry. When you're are at the party or the 'big' meal, eat slowly, and really savor the food.
Enjoy the folks you're celebrating with.
Put your fork down between bites. And try not to 'shovel ' in your food.
If you have food allergies, ask the host if there are nuts or whatever you're allergic to in the dish.
Try to stay calm. Deep breathe, stretch, walk outdoors, and enjoy nature. Or, come down to the wellness center to work out, and/or walk with Alora.

(Also, participate in eat rite on Fridays, 10am, but not this Friday. Holiday time is NOT about gifts, only. (really!)
And take care of yourself!! It's not the time to stop taking your meds, really. (if you are on meds) The best gift is your health.
OUR HEALTH IS PRICELESS!!!!

Happy, healthy, holidays everyone!
