🐾 Patient Update: Miss Mia 🐾

Mia came in to see us for coughing and choking, and our team quickly discovered she had not just one — but TWO foreign bodies. One was lodged in her esophagus, and another was in her stomach.

Dr.Roeder performed surgery to remove the foreign body in her stomach and carefully break up the one in her esophagus. We’re happy to report that Miss Mia recovered beautifully and had no more choking or coughing after her procedure! ✨

Mia returned today for her medical progress exam, and she is as happy as ever! 💕🐶 We love seeing our patients feeling better and back to their normal selves.

Great job, Mia! 🎉

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT: KIM 🐾✨

For the months of March & April, we’re so excited to introduce the amazing team members who love and care for your fur babies every single day! 💕🐶🐱

Today, we’re giving a HUGE shoutout to our second-longest-standing tech… KIM! 🎉👏

Kim graduated from Coahoma ISD in 2014 before heading to Stephenville to attend Tarleton State University. After earning her associate degree, she moved back to Coahoma with her (now husband!) Corey ❤️. She worked at Inspirations Boutique for a while before starting her journey here at Highland Animal Hospital. Beginning as a kennel assistant, Kim quickly worked her way up and earned her stripes as a veterinary technician! 🐾💪

She has been part of the Highland family for 8 ½ years—through a marriage 💍 and two sweet babies 👶👶—and we couldn’t imagine our team without her!

Kim’s favorite part of being a tech is diagnostics and surgery 🔬🩺. She loves looking beyond what can be seen with the naked eye to get to the root of a patient’s issues. A true problem solver at heart, Kim is passionate about making sure every pet leaves feeling better than when they came in 💕. Over the years, she’s especially enjoyed interpreting lab results and working closely with our amazing doctors to connect the dots—because sometimes the sneakiest problems are the real culprits! 🧩

And if there’s a golden retriever in the building… you can bet Kim is first in line! 🐕💛 She absolutely adores their goofy, loving personalities and can never get enough of those tail wags and puppy kisses 😍🐾

Some of her most memorable patients are Maddy and Molly, two beautiful golden retriever sisters who definitely kept us on our toes! 💦🐶 These water-loving girls struggled with chronic ear infections, and although their owners did everything they could, it took time to find the right solution. Eventually, sweet Molly underwent surgery for prevention, while Maddy’s condition improved. Years later, after moving to Dallas, they came back for a visit—and we were AMAZED to learn that Maddy is now a cancer survivor and amputee 💪❤️. Today, both girls are happy and healthy, and Kim cherishes every visit she gets with them!

Kim’s favorite part of working at Highland is the same as the rest of us—the people 💙. Our clinic is her found family, and she knows she wouldn’t be where she is today without the support of this incredible team. She looks forward to many more years of teamwork, laughter, and loving on all of your precious pets 🐾😊

Help us show Kim some LOVE and celebrate her amazing years at Highland! 🎉👏💖

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT: MAC 🐾✨

For the months of March & April, we’re so excited to introduce the amazing team members who love and care for your fur babies every single day! 💙🐶🐱

Next up—our youngest (but mighty!) technician… Mac! 💥

Mac joins us from the Lubbock area and brings 6 years of veterinary experience with her! 🩺🐾 She’s worked in a variety of clinics, including spay/neuter, small animal practices, and even exotics! 🐍🐰 She’s been in Big Spring and part of the Highland family for almost two years, and exciting news—she’ll be starting school soon to become a licensed technician! 🎓👏

Mac’s superpower? 💪 Jumping in wherever she’s needed! She keeps things running smoothly, especially when things get a little wild (and let’s be honest… they do 😅). She loves seeing new patients and cases every day and thrives on the excitement of never knowing what’s coming next. Around here, it’s never boring—and Mac wouldn’t have it any other way! 🎢🐾

One of Mac’s most memorable patients was a tiny parvo pup who was also battling intestinal parasites. 🐶💔 This sweet baby was critically ill—requiring a plasma transfusion, syringe feeding, and intensive care. At one point, the pup’s temperature spiked over 106°F 😱 (for reference, normal is around 102.5°F!). Despite all odds, this little fighter pulled through! 💪✨ Moments like these are why Mac loves what she does—seeing those hard-fought victories that she’ll carry with her throughout her career. ❤️

Mac chose veterinary medicine because of her lifelong passion for animals 🐾💖. She especially loves helping tame and rehome wild cats, giving them a chance at the loving homes they deserve. 🐱🏡 As she continues her journey, she’s excited to sharpen her skills—starting with mastering jugular catheters and dental X-rays! 🦷📸

Let’s give a HUGE shoutout to Mac for her dedication, heart, and willingness to jump in and help wherever needed! 🎉👏 We’re so lucky to have her on our team! 💙🐾

🌸🐾 This is NO April Fools’ joke! 🐾🌸

We’re excited to share that Dr. Burt will be joining us for some relief work a couple times a month through June while Dr. Berry is enjoying her maternity leave 💕👶

✨ His first visit will be this Wednesday April 1st–3rd ✨

Be sure to give him a warm Highland welcome when you see him! We’re so grateful to have his help during this special time. 🐶🐱💚

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT: HANNAH 💥🐾
For the months of March & April, we’re SO excited to introduce the amazing team members who love and care for your fur babies every single day! 💙🐶🐱
Next up… our resident firecracker 🔥… HANNAH!
Hannah is a proud hometown Forsan graduate 🎓 and has been part of the Highland family since before she even graduated! Fun fact—she’s basically grown up here, since our practice manager, Angie, is her mom! 💕🐾 Watching her mom dedicate her life to animals inspired Hannah to follow in her footsteps, and she knew early on that this was her calling too.
Hannah has officially been on our team for 7 years 🙌 and has worked her way up from kennel assistant to technician—talk about dedication and hard work! 💪✨
She loves all animals, but she has a special place in her heart for the big, wild, and crazy ones 🤪🐕—AKA… Labradoodles! 😂 She can’t get enough of them, and her own pup, Sevie 🐾, is truly the light of her life.
Don’t let her size fool you—Hannah is one of our top wranglers when it comes to handling those huge, not-so-happy pups 😳🐶 She’s living proof that dynamite comes in small packages 💥 and can absolutely hold her own in even the toughest situations!
The number one thing Hannah wants our clients to know is this: patience is key 🕊️. For the safety of everyone involved—and to provide the very best care—appointments don’t always go exactly as planned. We promise we’re doing everything we can, and we truly understand it can be frustrating at times. Just know, we would never recommend anything unless we wholeheartedly believed it was in the best interest of your pet. ❤️🐾
Hannah’s favorite part about working at the clinic? The people 💕. Not only does she have her mom to lean on during tough days, but the entire team as well. She truly believes we are a found family 🫶, and that we’re all better because of one another. Along the way, she’s built so many lifelong friendships—with both coworkers and clients!
Let’s show Hannah some LOVE for everything she does! 🎉🐾💙

Lisa & Sissy post-dental be like… 😜🦷

Lisa: “I think I feel great!”
Sissy: “Ma’am… your tongue has been out for 20 minutes.” 😂

Nothing says “successful dental day” like a little drool, a goofy face, and LOTS of love 💕🐾
These two handled it like champs—even if they’re a little extra silly right now!
