Growth rarely happens in our comfort zone.

We’re excited to introduce breakout speaker Terri Todd at the Montana Women’s Leadership Conference.

The Power of Discomfort

Terri is co-founder of Gratitude in Action and a respected leader in recovery and housing services. Through her work, she helps individuals and communities discover how leaning into discomfort can lead to powerful growth, resilience, and transformation.

Her session will challenge us to rethink the role discomfort plays in leadership and personal development — and how it can ultimately become a catalyst for change.

🎟 Tickets available now: www.juniorleagueofbillings.org

✨ Don’t forget to add a ticket for the Women’s Leadership Awards Ceremony on March 26, the evening before the conference, where we’ll celebrate inspiring women making a difference in our community.

Recovery isn’t built in big moments.
It’s built in the quiet ones most people never see.

It’s built on 👇

Putting your kids to bed and choosing connection instead of reaching for a drink to “reward” yourself for getting through the day.

Sitting on the couch at 8:30 at night with nothing to escape into except your own thoughts—and learning that you can sit with them.

Texting your friends, “I’m not drinking tonight,” and feeling that moment of uncertainty when the conversation goes quiet.

Driving past the liquor store after a brutal Tuesday and choosing to keep going—even though no one would ever know if you didn’t.

Looking honestly at your anxiety, your pain, your past, and deciding you want healing more than numbness.

Recovery is built on watching your identity change.

For years you may have been…

the life of the party.
the one who always said yes.
the one who kept the fun going.

And then one day you decide to become something even stronger:

just… you.

No buzz.
No buffer.
No escape hatch.

Just truth.

Everyone wants the transformation that recovery brings—
the clear mornings,
the restored relationships,
the confidence that says “I can handle life.”

But the middle part?

The middle is quiet.
It’s uncomfortable.
It’s humbling.

And sometimes it’s lonely.

There are nights people cry.
Weekends where the silence feels loud.
Friendships that change.
And those 5 p.m. moments that feel impossible to get through.

But here’s the truth we see every day at Gratitude in Action:

The transformation doesn’t come from comfort.

It comes from choosing honesty over escape.
Connection over isolation.
Community over shame.

It comes from people who decide they’re done negotiating with the very thing that’s holding them back.

Recovery isn’t about being perfect.

It’s about choosing, one day at a time, to build a life you don’t need to escape from.

And that’s exactly why community matters.

At Gratitude in Action, we believe recovery grows when people walk together—
building recovery capital, rebuilding purpose, and rediscovering hope.

Because no one should have to do recovery alone.

💛 It’s Okay to Make Mistakes
Recovery — and honestly life itself — isn’t about being perfect. It’s about showing up, trying, and continuing to move forward even when things don’t go exactly the way we hoped.
Mistakes are part of being human. They are part of learning. They are part of growth. And in recovery, they are often signs that someone is engaged, taking risks, and building a new life.
For many people in early recovery, there can be a lot of pressure to “get everything right.” But the truth is that progress rarely looks perfect. Sometimes it looks like trying something new, stumbling a little, and getting back up again.
At Gratitude in Action, we believe mistakes don’t define a person — their willingness to keep going does. Every day we see people learning new skills, rebuilding relationships, finding jobs, and discovering their strengths. Along the way, there will be bumps in the road. That’s okay.
Because every mistake can become a lesson, a step forward, and proof that someone is alive and trying.
So if today didn’t go perfectly, give yourself a little grace. The courage to try again tomorrow is what truly matters.
✨ Progress, not perfection.
