This month marked a major milestone in the progress of the construction of the new St. Vincent Regional Hospital, as the skyline began to change with the arrival of several mobile crawler cranes.

Community members can expect to see dramatic progress as the hospital’s structural “spine” and steel framing take shape over the coming months. We are proud to partner with local companies, such as True North Steel, to make the vision for the hospital of the future in Billings a reality.

The new St. Vincent Regional Hospital is a “once-in-a-generation” investment in the health of the Billings community and region. The 14-floor, 737,000 square-foot facility is being built at 27th Street and 12th Avenue North, just east of the current hospital. When completed in 2029, the new hospital will replace the current facility, with all existing services transferring to the new location.

When Teresa Liter went to her primary care provider, to discuss pain from what she thought were kidney stones, she never imagined the visit would lead to a lung cancer diagnosis.

After sharing her concerns with Stefanie Rickhoff, PA, at the Intermountain Health Lockwood Clinic, Teresa was referred for follow up testing. That same day, Stefanie asked Teresa to meet her back at the clinic so that she could share the results in person.

"She told me, ‘I’ll be here as long as you need me.’ She stayed late at the clinic to meet with me and my husband and went through the X-rays and everything. By the time I got there, she had called oncology, scheduled the brain MRI, the CT scan, and the lung biopsy. Everything was set up,” Teresa said.

Teresa was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer. Her treatment included chemotherapy, radiation, and immunotherapy. She worked closely with her oncology care team to ensure she was doing everything she could do to fight the spread of her cancer. She has responded well to the treatments. Almost a year later, she is finishing her final treatments with the hope of her cancer being in remission.

Teresa credits her incredible progress to the advancements in lung cancer treatment and she also encourages others to be proactive about their health. “Go see your primary care provider and establish that relationship. It’s because I had that relationship with Stefanie that we even caught it,” she said.

During this holiday season, Teresa is grateful for her family, her care team, and the chance to share her story. “Whether you have cancer or not, you need to be present each day and be thankful,” she said.

When Billings resident Nate Porter went in for a routine checkup last year, he never expected a life-changing diagnosis. With dangerously high blood sugar and an A1C near 11, he was immediately referred to the Intermountain Health Diabetes, Endocrinology & Weight Management Center in Billings — where he found the support he needed to turn things around.

Working closely with Nurse Practitioner Chelsi Hayter, Nate learned how to fit diabetes management into his life in a realistic, sustainable way. With medication, lifestyle changes, and the help of a continuous glucose monitor. Over the past year, he’s lost more than 60 pounds and feels healthier, more energetic, and more balanced than ever.

He credits the clinic’s team-based approach and Hayter’s support for his success. “They’re always there for me. If I have a question, I can message them and get a quick response,” he said. “Chelsi is a game changer. She listens to me as a patient and makes recommendations based on both the data and how I’m responding.”

To better support patients like Nate, the Diabetes, Endocrinology & Weight Management Center is undergoing a major renovation and expansion — increasing provider capacity, adding more exam rooms, creating space for group education and weight-management classes, and enhancing telehealth and diabetic eye exam services. The newly expanded center is expected to open in early 2026.

This transformation is made possible by generous gifts from local donors Steve and Debbie Reger and Tom and Maree Ryan — strengthening access to high-quality care for our region. 💙

We’re proud to recognize Scott Marosok from our Imaging Department as the latest recipient of the Intermountain L.O.V.E. (Living Our Values Every day) Award 💙

Scott was nominated after a patient called to share how deeply his compassion and calm presence impacted their visit — praising his ability to connect, comfort, and help people feel at ease.

Known as the “dad” of the CT department, Scott is the teammate who checks in, lifts others up, and makes sure everyone feels supported. His dedication to service runs deep, inspired by his mother’s 40-year nursing career and strengthened by his desire to show tenderness, love, and compassion to those who are hurting or afraid.

“I love what I do. I love patient care,” Scott shared. “I believe this validates my passion in my profession.”

Join us in congratulating Scott on this well-deserved honor and for living our values every day. 💙

This week, we continue to look back and reflect on our Catholic mission as we celebrated Founders' Day, our annual celebration of the founding of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth. We were blessed and honored to have Sister Maureen Hall "in character" in Billings to share with our St. Vincent caregivers the inspiring story of Mother Xavier Ross and how she courageously responded to God's call to a life of service and ministry to found the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth. As Mother Xavier, Sister Maureen inspires us to carry her spirit of service and compassion forward and shares ,"now with God's grace, do your best."
