I’m so excited that Oasis Family Birthing Center is a part of this growing reproductive justice movement along with our partners in the Alabama Birth Equity Initiative. Oasis strives increase access to midwifery in underserved and marginalized communities as well as create a training ground for the futures midwives in the state.

I’m so proud that the women of Alabama are fighting back; Black women specifically have been giving all way in have to bring our intellectual, physical and financial resources to improve access to quality and evidence based care. Late post: if you work in reproductive justice, you know that to say this work is hard is an understatement. It can be all consuming, overwhelming and disappointing which is why recognizing big or small can be rejuvenating and push you to go a little further. This is why I was so honored that my Alma mater WashU Arts & Sciences would reach out to me and feature the work I have begun here in Alabama!

I haven’t done in a while but the last two myomectomies I did were records for me. These are the most fibroids I’ve removed. One had 49 and the second one had 53 removed!
