This is what possibility looks like.
Originally shared by Rick Karle Good News.

Let’s hear it for Esther! The 3-year-old from McCalla, AL wants to show you her new eye gaze device.

Esther’s parents Caleb and Hope Lyle are very proud of their daughter who has overcome so much since birth. Esther was born with swelling on her brain, Cerebral Palsy and she was paralyzed from the waist down.

Esther was born nearly blind and profoundly deaf.
Miraculously, Esther’s hearing returned at the age of 18 months.
She’s already listened to 1,000 audiobooks!

Now, about Esther’s new eye gaze device, which, with the help of her new glasses, is opening new horizons for Sweet Esther!
Mom Hope Lyle sent me the following last night: “Look who worked an eye gaze communication device for the first time today!!!
“We didn’t think it would be able to happen until after the next eye surgery, if at all.

Esther was so excited that she kept making the different songs/videos start over and over again!

“We’ve fought so hard for this, and I’m so thankful for United Ability and her amazing speech therapist, Meredith Hankins, who believes in my girl’s unwavering spirit!”

Great news for Esther, who is getting accustomed to her new glasses and eye-gaze machine, and is so much more comfortable!
And Esther’s parent Caleb and Hope?

They welcome the Good News. For their daughter is a wonderful sight to see.

At Gone For Good, our mission is simple: create meaningful, lasting employment for people with disabilities.

Cedric recently earned his forklift certification, adding a new skill and expanding the work he’s able to do each day. It’s a reminder that growth doesn’t stop with time — it grows because of it.

We’re proud of Big Ced, his dedication, and the confidence he brings to work every day. This is what investing in people looks like, and it’s why Gone For Good exists.

Quality. Belonging. Possibility.

United Ability's Hand In Hand earned Alabama's highest Quality STARS rating (5 stars), and we're proud to be one of just 104 programs in the state to do so. There are over 1,900 licensed early learning programs in the state.

This recognition, overseen by the Alabama Department of Human Resources and the Alabama Department of Early Childhood Education, reflects the quality, care, and intention that shape every classroom at Hand In Hand.

This milestone is made possible by our Hand In Hand Champions, the supporters, staff, and parents, whose commitment strengthens our classrooms and supports families across our community.

We are grateful to have received a $10,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham to support Gone For Good (GFG), United Ability’s social enterprise.

This funding allowed us to invest in new software that streamlines operations by integrating customer management, online payments, and routing—helping us better serve our customers while continuing to create meaningful employment for adults with disabilities.

Each year, GFG keeps more than 2 million pounds of paper out of landfills, proving that thoughtful growth can strengthen both community and environmental impact.

It was a December to remember at Dr. E’s Place—filled with community outings, creating art, singing, dancing, and our choir sharing the joy of the season across Birmingham.

Moments like these build connection, confidence, and a true sense of belonging for the adults we serve, and they’re all made possible by your generous support.
