Ramsay defeated Wenonah in a big win, 27-7, to advance to the playoffs.

UAB Sports & Exercise Medicine was proud to host a Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Workshop for students from the Jacksonville State University Master of Athletic Training Program! 💪

Led by Chris Grijalba, DO, the session gave students hands-on experience with ultrasound imaging, diagnostic techniques, and real-world clinical applications.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to partner with JSU once again and help prepare these future athletic trainers for successful careers in sports medicine!

From a devastating ACL tear that sidelined her for over nine months, to returning stronger than ever, Calli Solan, a senior at Westminster Christian Academy and 2025 5A AHSAA State Champion, credits Amit Momaya, MD, and the UAB Sports & Exercise Medicine team for guiding her through recovery and back to championship form.

“Dr. Momaya and [clinical care coordinator] Sarah were outstanding. From our first email and phone call, they were responsive, caring, and always there when we needed them. We live almost two hours away, but it was worth every mile to be in their care. From day one, Dr. Momaya said, ‘ACLs are my passion,’ and we knew we were in the right place.”

Now fully recovered, she’s playing with more awareness, strength, and gratitude than ever before.

Join our October Grand Rounds tomorrow at 12:10 p.m., where Sports & Exercise Medicine Fellows Agatha Ambrozy, DO, and Alex Hanna, MD, will present, "The Athletic Preparticipation Exam for the Family Medicine Physician."

Objectives:
⚕️ Discuss the key history and physical exam aspects of the preparticipation exam that differentiate it from a routine wellness visit
🫀 Review concerning abnormal physical exam findings and indications for cardiac screening in the athlete
🏃 Identify EKG findings that are abnormal in the general population, but are considered to be normal in the athletic heart.

From the sideline to the classroom! 🏈🩺

UAB’s student-led Sports Medicine Interest Group (SMIG) got hands-on experience with Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) during their first-ever workshop event, led by their faculty leader, Matt Miesch, MD.

These portable devices are transforming care, helping clinicians diagnose injuries, assess organ systems, and guide procedures in real time. Whether on the sidelines or in the clinic, POCUS empowers providers to deliver faster, more accessible care for every patient.
