Last week, we unveiled our newest Mobile Market unit, expanding our capacity to deliver fresh, affordable produce directly into communities across Alabama.

While the needs of each community differ, access to fruits and vegetables remains a common challenge. Our Mobile Market helps address this with fresh produce and pantry staples, proteins, and dairy. This new unit supports continued progress in improving food access statewide.

We’re grateful to UAB - The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Novo Nordisk, The Interrupt, Navigate Affordable Housing Partners, City of Birmingham Government, and UAB Heersink School of Medicine for their continued support in making this work possible!

Our wellness team spent the day at a new location In Ward 6: Plant Street Church! We used this time to connect with neighbors around preventive care and healthy habits.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by and helped make this a strong day of community health.

Preventive care is about small, consistent choices that add up over time.

Knowing your numbers gives you a snapshot of your health today and helps you make informed decisions for tomorrow. Pair that knowledge with everyday habits like staying active, eating more fruits and vegetables, limiting sugary drinks, and avoiding to***co to support your long-term wellness.

Health is a journey, and we're here to support you every step of the way.

We recently participated in the WSFA 12 Day of Action at Selma High School, connecting with families and sharing health education resources alongside dozens of local organizations.

Days like this show what’s possible when community partners come together.

Daniel Christiansen completed our Community Leadership Academy training in Spring 2025. He now serves as president of the Central City Neighborhood Association and member of the Birmingham Planning Commission.

Christiansen is passionate about making an impact in the lives of residents in his neighborhood and the greater Birmingham area, including housing costs and affordability of basic needs.

"The best part of the Community Leadership Academy was making connections with other like-minded people in Birmingham," Christiansen said. "Spending time surrounded by others who also see what's possible and want to move the city forward was such a valuable experience."

If you're interested in learning the skills needed to help with this effort, Christiansen says go for it. "With more active community members, we will see a bigger impact, faster," he said. "And we need all the help we can get!"

“Working with the Mobile Wellness unit reminded me why I went into medicine: to meet people where they are and break down barriers to care. This experience will shape how I practice, and I will always remember that good medicine means understanding the person in front of you, not just their diagnosis.” – Dr. Cristel Flores, UAB Family Medicine resident

Our Mobile Wellness program gives residents hands-on opportunities to meet patients where they live and work, providing screenings, health guidance, and connections to local resources. This official partnership with UAB Department of Family and Community Medicine's Residency program is helping shape the next generation of community-minded physicians.
