🌟 ATC Nurse Spotlight: Dr. Nekia Steger Whitlow, DNP, FNP, CRNP
At ATC Healthcare, we’re proud to shine a light on our dedicated nurses who go above and beyond every day. This week, we’re celebrating Dr. Nekia Steger Whitlow, a compassionate and driven healthcare professional whose journey embodies passion, perseverance, and purpose.
With 28 years in healthcare, Dr. Whitlow’s story is one of lifelong dedication. She began her journey as a Patient Care Technician (PCT) in 1997, briefly explored another path, but soon returned to pursue her true calling nursing. While balancing work and family, she advanced her education, earning her BSN in 2014, MSN in 2022, and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in 2023.
Today, Dr. Whitlow serves as a full-time Nurse Practitioner and part-time Registered Nurse, continuing to make an impact wherever she goes. “I’ve always been a nurturer,” she shares. “At a young age, I knew I wanted to be a nurse. The idea of making others feel better physically and mentally fills my heart with joy.”
Her career has taken her through Skilled Nursing Facilities, Rehabilitation Centers, Outpatient Clinics, and Inpatient Care each experience strengthening her commitment to quality, compassionate care. For Dr. Whitlow, the most fulfilling moments are seeing patients who arrive in poor condition recover and leave stronger. “Those moments remind me why I chose this path,” she says.
Since joining ATC Healthcare in 2018, Dr. Whitlow has served in various capacities, including providing in-home care for the elderly, completing insurance assessments, and caring for school-aged and special needs children in after-school programs and on school bus routes.
“Working for ATC has been so rewarding,” she says. “The company offers a variety of experiences, provides excellent training, and keeps us up to date on all state guidelines and regulations. The staff is always professional and kind—and Kerel is truly a gem!”
When asked what advice she would share with other nurses, Dr. Whitlow’s words reflect her wisdom and heart:
“Always remember your ‘Why.’ There will be challenging days, but the rewards outweigh the frustrations. Stay connected to your purpose and your passion for helping others.”
Thank you, Dr. Whitlow, for your dedication, leadership, and compassion. You represent the very best of what ATC Healthcare stands for quality care with heart.
