The UAB School of Nursing is partnering with UAB Medicine, including UAB St. Vincent’s, to implement the Reach for the Stars Nursing Scholarship Program, a national initiative designed to help meet the demand for nurses by educating new RNs throughout the United States. The scholarships support hospital employees, including those working in part-time and flexible roles, who are interested in pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing.

UABSON Professor Karen Heaton is President-Elect of the AAOHN - American Association of Occupational Health Nurses. AAOHN is an organization representing licensed nurses who specialize in occupational and environmental health nursing. She will assume the presidency in April 2026 and will serve a one-year term.
