Gift of Sight is on a mission to make a difference in the community. Our partners at Remote Area Medical (RAM) joined us on-site to produce prescription glasses for patients during this annual event. This collaboration means so much to us! RAM travels across the United States providing free medical, dental, and vision care to communities that need it most. We are proud to partner with Cooper Green Mercy Health Services to expand comprehensive eye care to Jefferson County residents. Dr. Mallory Wright (center) serves as the lead attending doctor, working closely with their staff, our students and others to provide care. This partnership between the optometry and Cooper Green Ophthalmology teams has proven highly effective, ensuring patients receive comprehensive care through close collaboration and timely referrals, which Cooper Green leaders call a win for patients.

Austin Meadows, Class of 2028, recently brought his son Kolbe to have his first eye exam at UAB Eye Care! ❤️

UAB Eye Care conducts free eye exams for infants between 6 and 12 months through InfantSEE®, a program in optometry designed to ensure that eye and vision care become an essential part of infant wellness to improve a child’s quality of life.

The comprehensive, dilated eye examinations consist of assessing visual function, eye alignment, the need for glasses and eye health, as well as aiming to obtain early recognition of problems with any of these that could lead to vision loss or other problems.

November is Diabetic Eye Disease Awareness Month!

Dr. Andrew Rothstein explains that Diabetic Macular Edema (DME) is a serious complication of diabetes that can lead to vision loss. Symptoms can be subtle or develop over time, which is why regular, comprehensive eye exams are essential to catch changes early.
