Alabama has earned another failing grade in maternal & infant health: an “F”… again from the March of Dimes .
Our state has consistently ranked at the bottom when it comes to protecting and supporting birthing women & babies. And just this month, two Black women went viral for the traumatic, dangerous, and dismissive care they experienced inside hospital walls.
It’s heartbreaking, but it’s not surprising😫.
The medical industrial complex was never designed with women, especially Black women in mind. We’ve (midwives) been sounding the alarm for years, and the data keeps proving the same truth: the system is failing us. And a little sad truth: IT WILL CONTINUE TO !
This is why I’m welcoming new families into midwifery care with , and reminding others, to STRONGLY consider midwifery care; care that centers you, your body, your family, your voice, your baby, and your safety. Care that doesn’t rush you, silence you, or treat you like a problem to manage.
In the last week alone, I’ve had the honor of supporting two beautiful families through peaceful, grounded postpartum experiences, several others with prenatal care, and providing childbirth education. No chaos. No fear. No dismissal. Just evidence-based care, tenderness, informed decision-making, and the sacred care that every new family deserves.
