🎃👁️ Don't let spooky fun turn into a scary eye injury! 👻
As you plan your costume, remember these tips for a safe and "eye-mazing" Halloween:
•Avoid non-prescription contacts: Get decorative contact lenses from an eye doctor, even if you have perfect vision. Ill-fitting lenses from costume shops or online can cause infections and even vision loss.
•Keep props safe: Be cautious with sharp objects like wands, swords, and masks. Accidental pokes can lead to eye injuries. Children should be supervised.
•Choose masks wisely: Ensure any mask or wig doesn't obstruct your vision, especially at night. For kids, face paint can be a safer alternative to a vision-blocking mask.
•Handle makeup carefully: Use hypoallergenic, FDA-approved face paint. Avoid chunky glitter, which can scratch the cornea, and never apply makeup to the inner lash line. Always remove all makeup before bed.
•Stay visible: If trick-or-treating in the dark, carry a flashlight or use reflective tape on costumes so you and others can see clearly.
