Food security is directly a protective factor for preventing developing an eating disorder.
Food security allows for mental well being and physical health indicators across the entire lifespan to significantly improve.
Food security is something the government is CAPABLE of helping happen. For every dollar of food assistance there is a direct benefit to our economy.
Food security reduces violence and impulsive acts for those who feel desperate.
Hunger and stress change the neurological wiring in any human brain. These changes have significant consequences in children and can change wiring until adulthood or trauma healing interventions.
There’s a dialectic experience happening right now surrounding food security in America. The activation for grassroots mobilization to support organizations that help address food security is both noble and necessary. Donating cash or shelf stable items to local organizations is amazing! Combining candy with some other food items for folx to grab this Halloween- amazing!
AND we the people need to get loud and clear that the system needs repair, and needs actionable change. Historically any time programming has been on the cusp of being cut, delayed or cancelled, using your voice has caused direct change! Call your senator. Repost about this, make it loud.
In eating disorder recovery, there is a stage that contains liberation. Liberation of intentional communication, intentional autonomy, intentional engagement in the world. These acts are of empowerment and self care. These acts are more readily accessible and effective in a nourished body and mind. These acts are forms of resistance to systems that thrive on collective exhaustion or distracted stress. Collectively and individually we can come together to reclaim the powerful message: all humans deserve to be protected and fed.
Your voice. Your power. Your impact.
