The Northeast Community YMCA Chair Aerobics Class went RED today to show support for Heart Health Month.

❤️ The YMCA is a perfect place to promote heart-healthy habits in the community. Here are a few suggestions that you can use:

💪 Move More: Aim for 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week. Check with a certified fitness expert before starting any new workout.

🥗 Eat Smart: Increase heart health with a proper diet. Always consult your primary care physician before any major diet changes.

🩺 Know Your Numbers: Become able to track blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, BMI.

🧠 Stress & Mental Wellness: Stress impacts heart health. Take some time for yourself doing an activity that calms and relaxes you.

We have a rich history and legacy at the Northeast Community YMCA. It’s Black History month and we honor Joseph Hollis for all of his years of unwavering service to our YMCA. He stood in the gap and ensured that the eastside would have a YMCA beyond some of the most challenging times in our community.

As we continue to celebrate the recent transformation and renovation of the Northeast Community YMCA, we recognize that this new chapter stands on the foundation built by Joseph Hollis.

Mr. Hollis made history as the first African American Advisory Board Chair of the YMCA’s Northeast Branch (1998) — and his leadership left a lasting impact on the Roebuck community.

During a time of significant economic and demographic change in the area, Mr. Hollis was a steadfast advocate for ensuring the YMCA remained a strong, steady presence in Roebuck. It matters. Truly, the beautiful new campus you see now, and the many programs available at 628 Joseph Hollis Rd (Red Lane Road) very well might not exist today if not for him.

Y It Matters 5K and Fun Run benefitting the Downtown Youth Center - YMCA of Greater Birmingham was a huge success. We would like to thank all the volunteers, vendors, and community partners that came together to support this event. We look forward to bigger success for next year.

Homeownership is a good goal to strive for. Three families were blessed to be able to move into their homes during the holiday season. Special thanks to Habitat For Humanity Greater Birmingham for their partnership with the YMCA of Greater Birmingham that helped facilitate this dream I to reality. We would like to thank Medsplus for hosting a month long Diabetes Education class at the Northeast Community YMCA. The participants learned the value that education is key to living a long and healthy life. We look forward to future partnerships with Medsplus Pharmacy & Wellness Center .
