Today is National Injury Prevention Day. Injuries are the leading cause of death for kids over the age of 1. Each year, Injury Free Coalition for Kids sponsors National Injury Prevention Day.

Volunteer Services celebrated our incredible volunteers at the annual Appreciation Dinner on November 6th. Guests enjoyed a magical evening of dinner and entertainment by magician Brian Reeves, honoring those who make a real difference every day.

So far in 2025, 905 volunteers have given 34,956.25 hours of their time to Children’s — a contribution valued at $1.14 million!

Thank you to all our volunteers for the time, care, and compassion you share. The difference you make is truly no illusion!

💪 Meet Whitman

What started as “growing pains” at age 2 turned out to be juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA): an autoimmune disease that causes painful joint swelling and stiffness. Whitman’s symptoms continued to worsen until his family finally found answers and hope at Children’s of Alabama.

With a personalized treatment plan and support from the Children’s Harbor Family Center, Whitman has made an incredible turnaround. He now handles weekly injections like a pro, and he’s back to doing what he loves most: playing baseball and advancing in karate.

“He’s a totally different kid now,” says his mom, Rochelle. “Looking at him, you’d never even know he has JIA. Children’s didn’t just treat Whitman — they cared for our whole family.” ❤️
