When psychological science = practical advice. 😍

The gist:
-Willpower is a limited reserve.
-Humans aren't good at consistently shoring up the willpower to make good choices.
-It's more effective to set up our lives in a way that reduces the likelihood of doing things that aren't good for us.

This looks like:
-Putting your phone in the other room while studying. Or face down on the table when out with friends.
-Bringing books to the restaurant, rather than iPads.
-Wearing gloves while sitting on the couch if that's where you usually bite your nails or pick your cuticles.
-Putting sweets up high in cupboards, rather than visible on the counter.

For decades, parents were told to help children build willpower like a muscle, to resist things like junk food and too much time on their screens. But new research suggests a better strategy.
