Seven months ago, I was in a very different place. When I first came to Heaven’s Helper Soup Café, I was in treatment and had opportunity to come volunteer with other Heartview residents. I was trying to figure out if recovery was even possible for me. Today, I walked back in sober and I got to stand on the other side of the counter by choice. I’m seven months sober now. In that time, I’ve opened a women’s sober living home, and the woman serving next to me in this picture, Tawni, is one of my residents. We came to volunteer because I remember what it felt like to be the person who needed a meal and a little bit of hope. This place was part of my journey, and coming back here to serve is my way of saying thank you to the community that showed up for me when I couldn’t show up for myself. Recovery is real. God is still moving. And sometimes healing looks like tying on an apron, grabbing a name tag, and serving soup in the same place that once helped carry you. Thank you Heavens Helpers Soup Cafe.
