Anpetu Waste!🪶 This is Waylon Little Dog (middle), an akíčhita (warrior), a proud member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe (Little Eagle District) 🦬!
Waylon has made astounding progress✅ on his Čhaŋkú-Lúta (red road), he approved of me sharing his update. Waylon just landed housing in sober living and a job! He was so excited to share this news with me this morning. So I asked him after sharing joy with him, “Waylon how did Native, Inc. play a role in helping you get this far?“.
He said, “It was because two people believed in me, a Native man (Casey Red Road) that changed his own life and a Native woman (Lorraine Davis) that was once like me was able to become successful in life.” He also said, “My family always told me, “Don’t forget who you are, you come from a strong line of akicitas, and you have spiritual gifts.” I can speak to this experience in what I’ve known in my own imperfect path, and is why I started Native American Development Center (2012) and NATIVE, Inc., (2019), we are spiritual people first, it is the foundation of our being and our identity. We just need to feel safe in a space of loving people who are non-judgmental, who understands our worldviews our way of being and our way of life, and to have them walk alongside us, connecting with us and connecting us to our cultural and spiritual ways of being and living.
What I envisioned in 2002 during my own humbleca, I promised to create a place in Bismarck to help people like me. I’m so grateful to Tunkasila that we are witnessing this today. Through our people helping our people. We are a resilient Indigenous people.
Happy National Indigenous Heritage Month🦬!
