It’s National Nurse Practitioner Week! Meet Elizabeth Poor 👩🏼‍⚕️
Elizabeth graduated from VT in 2006 with a B.S. in Biology. She later completed her AD in nursing in 2013 from New River Community college. She spent 8 years working inpatient medical/surgical nursing, care coordination/patient education of chronic disease, and care coordination in skilled nursing facility transitions. Elizabeth became an AANP board certified FNP in 2020 after completing her master’s in nursing from Walden University. She has practiced locally in a family medicine setting. A proud Hokie alumna and Christiansburg native, Elizabeth looks forward to serving her fellow Hokies.

It’s National Nurse Practitioner Week! Meet Tracy Buchanan, FNP-C 👩‍⚕️
Tracy is a Family Nurse Practitioner who earned her degrees from Virginia Tech and Radford University. She is certified in family practice and is passionate about providing compassionate, patient-centered care to individuals and families across all stages of life. Outside of work, Tracy enjoys traveling, hiking, and spending time with her animals.

It’s National Nurse Practitioner Week! Meet Jianfeng Zheng! 👩‍⚕️
She graduated from Hebei Medical University in 1982 with a degree in medical science and later earned a degree in nursing science and a master’s degree as a family-certified nurse practitioner from Radford University. Jianfeng has more than 36 years of inpatient and outpatient clinical experience working with patients of all ages. She is fluent in both Mandarin and English and is ready to help with all your health care needs!

It’s National Nurse Practitioner Week! Meet Crystal Buck, FNP-C👩‍⚕️
Crystal is a Family Nurse Practitioner who graduated from the University of Virginia in 2013. She has a special interest in young adult health, mental wellness, and preventative care. She is actively involved in her church community at CSUMC in Roanoke. She enjoys hiking, participating in book club, and hosting game nights for family and friends. She looks forward to supporting you in your health and wellness journey.

It’s National Nurse Practitioner Week! Meet Shannon Lowry MSN, APRN, FNP-C👩‍⚕️
Shannon is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with over 9 years of experience dedicated to providing comprehensive and compassionate patient care as a nurse practitioner. She is passionate about promoting wellness through patient education and fostering strong patient-provider relationships built on trust and mutual respect.
Shannon earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Radford University and her Master of Science in Nursing with a specialization in Family Nurse Practitioner from Old Dominion University. Before becoming a Nurse Practitioner, she worked for years as a Registered Nurse in surgery and a trauma unit. Many of these years were spent gaining valuable experience as a travel nurse.
In her current role as an NP, Shannon focuses on urgent care, chronic illness, health/wellness and gynecological health. She emphasizes a holistic approach to patient care, taking into account individual needs and preferences to develop personalized treatment plans. Shannon is skilled in performing thorough patient assessments, interpreting diagnostic tests, urgent care treatments and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal health outcomes for her patients.
Outside of her clinical practice, Shannon enjoys fishing, hunting, camping/hiking, fitness and spending time with family, which helps her stay grounded and connected to her community. Thank you Shannon for your work!

Radiologic Technologist
ARRT registered and licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia.

I earned my Associate of Applied Science in Radiology from Virginia Western Community College in 2024.

I began my career in hospital imaging before transitioning to Schiffert Health Center, where I enjoy providing quality imaging and compassionate care to both students and athletes.

Outside of work, I’m a proud mom of three who loves family time, coffee, beach trips, and a good book.

Clinical Assistant applications are open! 📝

Schiffert Health Center provides an opportunity for students to work aside our medical staff.
We are looking for students that are interested in a career in medicine and would like a place to start. This is a perfect opportunity to find clinical hours for a higher, professional health school or program. As a clinical assistant, you will see patients [students] and examine general information and vitals before seating them into the consultation room to meet with a Schiffert provider.

It’s National Radiologic Technology Week, so here is what you need to know about SHC Radiology!

To obtain an x-ray, a signed written request from a Schiffert Health Center provider, or other licensed U.S. healthcare practitioner, must be presented. If you have not been seen by a provider, please contact the appointment desk at 540-231-6444.

It’s time for our last October HIV and Hepatitis C testing provided by The Drop-In Center and hosted at Schiffert Health Center. Testing is today, October 28th, from 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.! Testing is free and confidential.

Call (540)982-2437 to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins are welcome as time allows but individuals with appointments receive priority.

This service is provided on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month between 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. from September to April.
