Look at the area circled in black. This is a very complex area of anatomy. It contains the first rib, prominal clavicle, and sternum.. All 3 bones come together to form a complex joint. The joints are prone to subluxations. Improper movement/restricted movement . As a result , many people can experience reduced Range of motion to the arm , shoulder girdle and respirations. And , since the 1st rib attatches to the 1st Thoracic vertebrae , it can cause restriction here. Additionally, the Brachial plexus (a large band of nerves passing throught the area)can become involved and patients may experience Tingling / numbness that can run through the arm and into the hand/ fingers . This is why I check these areas on my patients. Freeing these areas of subluxation/ restricted movement, is a key way to help the body to function properly and to stop pressure to the Brachial plexus.
