Amanda Nephew Therapy Services Therapy for Individuals, Couples and Families. Premarital Counseling and Discernment Counseling

Amanda Nephew, LAMFT, specializes in individual, couple and family therapy. She found her passion of working with couples and families during her graduate level internship with well known and seasoned therapist Mark Anderson, LMFT, LP. Amanda is passionate about helping people become the best version of themselves by focusing on relationships, identity and individual growth. Her approach to therapy is strength-based, client focused and systemic in nature. She sees herself as a catayst in healing old wounds, changing negative patterns and thought processes and exploring current life issues. Although Amanda does Christian counseling, she effectively works with clients of other faiths or no faith at all. Her special topics of interest include couples therapy, premarital counseling, sprirtual struggles, identity issues, life transitions, depression, anxiety, abuse, adoption and blended families.

Anxiety can show up in unexpected ways after trauma or grief. A great resource I’ve found to explain this in depth is a book called Anxiety: The Missing Stage of Grief. I’ll link it in the comments.

I’m especially thinking of and holding close my clients who are grieving loss and ambiguous loss. This time of year can bring an intensity of grief that is often surprising. Let’s continue to hold our love for those we’ve lost by feeling it completely and also allow ourselves the permission to celebrate. Merry Christmas and a restful transition into the new year. ❤️

“In the early, uncertain days of the pandemic, it’s likely that your brain’s threat detection system — called the amygdala — was on high alert for fight-or-flight. As you learned that masks helped protect us — but package-scrubbing didn’t — you probably developed routines that eased your sense of dread. But the pandemic has dragged on, and the acute state of anguish has given way to a chronic condition of languish.”

The neglected middle child of mental health can dull your motivation and focus — and it may be the dominant emotion of 2021.

With the world opening back up we can feel excited AND ANXIOUS! I’ve heard over and over clients starting to worry about the most common everyday things they used to do. Our stamina has decreased and our anxiety has increased.

“Overall, ‘cut yourself a break,’ Gajendran said. Those of us who have been staying in for most of the pandemic may feel strange and anxious about readapting to society, but we're in the same boat and can (safely) help one another through it.”

March 11 marked a year since the World Health Organization declared Covid-19 a pandemic, and March 13 is one year since the US declared a national emergency. When life normalizes, how normal will things we used to do — like shaking hands — really feel?

I know some of you have had to fight your ongoing battles with more courage this year because you had to fight new battles at the same time. Although it’s exhausting, think about your resilience and what you’ve learned. And, remember to allow yourself to rest a bit. You’ve earned it!

Coaching is a GREAT option if you do not need therapy, but still desire someone to walk alongside of you to help you reach your goals, solve a problem or gain some insight.
