Atlanta Pauses Evictions And Water Shutoffs Amid SNAP Funding Lapse
Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens has announced an immediate pause on evictions and water shutoffs through January 31, 2026, as federal SNAP funding faces a lapse.
The initiative, called “ATL CARES,” aims to protect vulnerable residents who may lose access to food assistance. The order directs city housing agencies to halt evictions for non-payment and stops the Atlanta Department of Watershed Management from cutting off residential water service.
Mayor Dickens said the move ensures “no resident should go hungry or lose their home because of federal inaction.” The city is also partnering with the Atlanta Community Food Bank to provide emergency food support while federal aid remains uncertain.

Our work at Potters Village in Ghana brought tears to our eyes. We were so blessed to be able to donate items and money to children in need. Now we must start the same in the US. SNAP benefits being suspended will mean many hungry families in need. What will you do?
