Itsy Bitsy Smiles 101:

To prevent fluoride overexposure, use a smear amount of fluoride toothpaste on children under age 3. Caregivers should ensure children spit out excess toothpaste rather than swallowing it. You can use a washcloth to remove excess.
A smear amount limits fluoride ingestion to safe levels while still protecting against decay.

Do not share toothbrushes, spoons or straws! Sharing spoons, forks, or cleaning a pacifier with your mouth can transfer cavity-causing bacteria from adults to children!

This will increase the risk of early childhood tooth decay.

Itsy Bitsy Smiles:

Does your Little One has shark teeth? This is when the permanent teeth come in before the baby teeth fall out. This is extremely common, especially in the lower arch.

This occurs when the permanent teeth are developing closer to the tongue side.

Encourage your child to wiggle the baby teeth out. This will allow the permanent teeth to move forward into the arch.

If the baby teeth do not fall out within a month of the new teeth erupting or they are causing them pain, call us to be evaluated.

Finger sucking or Pacifier?

Finger sucking habit as well as pacifier habit are a common, comforting habit for young children. It usually stops on its own, between ages 2 and 4. Persistent sucking after age 5 can lead to dental issues like misalignment, crossbites, and speech issues.
