I was honored to speak at a community event hosted by the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated – Epsilon Omicron Omega Chapter during Black History Month and Heart Health Month.
As founder of LivingWell Primary Care, my mission is prevention, education, and empowering women to protect their health before crisis occurs.
Here are a few powerful truths we discussed:
❤️ Heart disease is the #1 cause of death in women — yet many women don’t hear this until after a problem develops.
📊 Black women develop hypertension, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease earlier and more aggressively.
😴 Poor sleep during menopause increases blood pressure, inflammation, and insulin resistance.
🌺 Menopause is not just a reproductive transition — it is a cardiometabolic turning point.
We explored how:
• Estrogen loss affects cholesterol, blood vessels, and belly fat
• Chronic stress increases cortisol, long-term vascular strain and inflammation.
• Hormone therapy — when appropriately prescribed — can support vascular health and reduce cardiometabolic risk
• Strength training, sleep protection, and knowing your numbers are essential
At LivingWell Primary Care, we focus on personalized, preventive strategies that address cardiovascular risk, metabolic health, and menopause care together — not in silos.
Heart health starts long before a heart attack. Midlife is not decline — it is an opportunity for prevention and longevity.
I am so grateful for being asked to present such a meaningful discussion.
