We are excited to announce that Bloomfield Foot Specialists’ own Dr. Gambardella is this year’s recipient of the John D. Walker Award, 2025 Podiatrist of the Year for his outstanding service and leadership to the profession of podiatry! This award is presented annually in grateful recognition by the Connecticut Podiatric Medical Association.
Dr. Gambardella is currently the chief of podiatric foot and ankle surgery at Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT. He is on the board of directors for Integris Group, which provides medical malpractice insurance to physicians and surgeons throughout the country, and is the Chair of the Underwriting Committee, while also serving on the risk management and governance committees. Dr. Gambardella was also on the board of directors for CT Podiatric Medical Association for 8 years, serving as the legislative chair. Through rigorous efforts and hundreds of hours of work and meetings with legislators from 2023 – 2025, Dr. Gambardella was instrumental in getting the state to pass a critical law for his profession, expanding the scope of practice in podiatry to include total ankle replacements.
Dr. Gambardella is board certified in foot surgery, as well as reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery, and is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He has been named Doctor of the Year in 2024 and 2025 in Connecticut Magazine, and specializes in the treatment of various foot and ankle pathologies, with a surgical focus on trauma, complex deformity correction and limb preservation. Dr. Gambardella lectures nationally on foot and ankle surgery, is an attending surgeon and teaches residents at Saint Francis Hospital and Yale-New Haven Hospital.
