In 2013, a 24-year-old American soldier from Staten Island, New York, saw a Taliban su***de bomber running toward a wounded Polish captain who could not walk. He had one second to decide.
Staff Sergeant Michael Ollis stepped in front of the blast. He died instantly. Polish Captain Karol Cierpica survived.
Cierpica named his son Michael β in honor of the man who saved his life.
This week, President Trump awarded Ollis the Medal of Honor at the White House. Cierpica stood on stage and said: I will see you in our heavenly homeland.
The bond between Poland and America is not just political. It is written in blood.
Rest in peace, Staff Sergeant Ollis. π΅π±πΊπΈ
