✨Getting answers is the first step toward a brighter future.✨

At Midwest Autism & Psychological Services (MAPS), we believe that every individual deserves a clear path forward. We specialize in providing comprehensive initial diagnostic evaluations for young children, ages 2 to 6, where Autism Spectrum Disorder is a primary concern.

Our process is rooted in clinical excellence, built on a foundation of family partnership and active collaboration with parents and the other providers dedicated to your child’s success. We utilize evidence-based tools like the ADOS-2 and ADI-R to provide a deep understanding of an individual’s unique strengths and challenges.

What sets a MAPS evaluation apart?
✅ Comprehensive Scope: We evaluate for Autism (ASD), ADHD, Intellectual Disability, Trauma Disorders, and Mood Disorders.
✅ Multidisciplinary Insight: Our licensed clinicians collaborate with outside providers, including ABA, Speech, and OT teams to ensure a holistic view.
✅ A Clear Roadmap: An evaluation is just the first step—we don’t leave families navigating the next phase on their own. After your child’s assessment, MAPS provides warm handoffs to trusted community providers.

🌟 Understanding Repetitive Motor Movements in Young Children 🌟

Repetitive motor movements are actions that children may perform over and over again. While some repetition is a normal part of early development, certain patterns can be signs to watch for. Common examples include:

🔄 Hand flapping
🔄 Rocking back and forth
🔄 Spinning in circles
🔄 Repetitive finger movements
🔄 Lining up toys or objects

These movements can be part of typical play, but if you notice them happening frequently or interfering with daily activities, it may be helpful to talk with your pediatrician. Early support can make a big difference!

Early Signs of Autism: What to Watch For

Autism can show up in many ways, especially during the toddler years. Along with regression, parents might notice:

👁️ Lack of or reduced eye contact
👂 Lack of or minimal response to name
🗣️ Limited speech or loss of words
👋 Not using gestures like waving or pointing
🚗 Unusual ways of playing with toys, such as lining up or spinning
🔊 Strong reactions to sounds, textures, or lights
🤗 Preferring to play alone or not sharing interests with family

Every child develops at their own pace, but if you notice these signs, especially around 12–18 months, consider reaching out to your pediatrician or an autism specialist. Early support matters, and we are committed at MAPS to provide early screening for children!
