Mindfulness is hard. Sometimes you just need a cookie! Well, go ahead, eat that cookie and when you do, reaaaally enjoy it. Eat slowly, notice texture, flavor, dip it in your beverage. And when you are done, you can get back to all that stuff that was overwhelming you before. See what we did there? 😉

Hey Bloomington - let’s flow with Sam at The Collective!

This flow targets the whole body, from the toes to the shoulders. Start on the right side as the video demonstrates and repeat on the left side after several breaths in child’s pose. Each side takes about 5 minutes - do the right and left for a quick flow or add several rounds and linger in the poses as desired.

As you might notice, Sam is a bit tight - we are not looking for perfection in the visual rather an awareness of how it feels in your body and using that to guide depth and the variation you choose. Remember - you can always linger or skip poses.

Variations can be made in every pose -

Plank - fists for wrists, forearms or knees tap down at angle

Downdog - bent knees or opt for table top

Half pigeon - consider blocks under hands, under front hip, staying lifted as you press into your legs or move straight into z-sit

Z-sit extensions - consider dragging your toe until you’ve built outer hip strength or placing hands on ground on either side of front knee

Seated twist? Bottom leg can extend or opt for a baby twist

Shiva squat - lift the heel of the standing leg, opt to not go as well

Cow face arms - be sure to press the head into the hand for neck support or leave it out if shoulders are injured, too tight today

Toe stretch - option to keep chest forward and hands down OR stand on shins for less knee compression

Tiny ball or forward fold - an actively engaged half lift is 💰

Chaturanga/push up - hold a plank or use knees on mat at an angle in line with crown of head

Up dog - low cobra or drop knees and take cow chest

Yoga is a practice that asks us to find the
balance between effort and ease. Using props allows us to create engagement to build strength. Using props
allows us to cultivate support which allows us to build trust. Props often make deeper surrender and relaxation possible. The usage of props can challenge us physically through the awareness they create resulting in a progression of our practice. Props
allow the practice to be inclusive and accessible. Props are transformative.

It’s September 21st, y’all! Join us this evening for a reboot. Harmony’s second offering of yoga nidra will help you settle your nervous system and prepare you for the week to come. Sadly, she will not be playing Earth, Wind, & Fire as who would be able to resist tapping their toe and wiggling their hips? 😉
