"Not blind enough."
This is a common frustration seen online, and one that Dr. (Jarrod) Long hears often in his low vision practice.
On its face, this may seem like an unusual thing to say, but it reflects a very real and disheartening experience for people with low vision—a lack of understanding of what blindness actually means, and the resulting lack of support for those living in this "gray zone" between "disabled" and "normal."
Check out Dr. Long's most recent video and article on this topic where he discuss what people really mean when they say they’re “not blind enough,” why blindness is a spectrum, the emotional toll of living in the "gray zone," and why you don’t have to be legally blind to benefit from low vision care.
