If you have any funds left in your FSA/HSA and want to use it before the end of the year, you can use your card to checkout. Or if, like me, all of your FSA/HSA money went to your kids’ glasses, then keep this in mind for January!

Acupuncture has a cumulative effect, so it’s important to make time in your schedule to receive it consistently.
As we start building layers into your treatment sessions, you will notice results in how you feel and move.
It’s best to begin acupuncture treatment early in the course of your discomfort or to prevent such problems from developing at all, rather than as a last resort.

As the weather takes a turn for 🥶 today, remember the Traditional Chinese Medicine basics to care for your immune system!

1. Sleep is key! Don’t be like everyone at my house and stay up late to wait for that 1989 TV to drop, instead go to bed early and let your body rest.

2. We are crazy about scarves and warm layers in TCM. The acu-points on the back of the neck (called the Wind Gates) are vulnerable and need to be covered in cold, windy weather. Don’t be surprised if you see me wearing a hat/scarf in the clinic on cold days, it’s not because I’m having a bad hair day, I promise. 😬

3. Work those lungs with deep breathing exercises! In your session we can do cupping over the lung points to move and clear mucus.

4. Turn your iced coffee into hot coffee (and your hot coffee into herbal tea)! In TCM we always reach for warmer drinks in the colder weather to keep the immune system and the body’s protective Qi in harmony with the season.

5. Eat warm foods that are in season. Think sweet potatoes and squash and dark leafy greens. Your body is craving soup and stew for a reason. Avoid cold treats and salads for the time being!

Antacids are the most popular medication for stomach and digestion issues. Few patients, though, understand how these meds can alter the stomach environment and cause nutrient deficiencies.

Because stomach acid is an important element in digestion, it shouldn’t surprise you that eliminating stomach acid can have adverse effects. A long-term regimen of antacids and acid suppressants can cause consequential nutrient deficiencies.

Two of the most concerning deficiencies are vitamin B12 and Calcium, especially in elderly patients. B12 requires gastric acid for absorption and women are more susceptible to being B12 deficient than men.

This doesn’t mean you should stop taking your medication cold turkey. Instead, set up an appointment with us and we’ll discuss your unique needs.

Let’s break down some acu myths!

⚪️ It requires the use of painful needles:
Yes, we need to use needles in acupuncture, but it is far from painful. It’s actually so relaxing that many patients fall asleep during our sessions. The needles are surprisingly thin and are often referred to as “pins.” They don’t resemble needles used for injections or drawing blood.

⚪️ It doesn’t work:
While everyone’s results and experiences with acupuncture will differ, countless studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of treatments on the mind and body.

⚪️ It’s a mystical form of voodoo:
There is nothing magical about acupuncture. It is a clinical modality that helps balance your body’s interconnected systems. While it is not entirely clear how acupuncture works to heal the body, research shows that acupuncture works by stimulating a nerve in the body that then sends a signal to the brain to release pain relieving hormones. These hormones can help suppress pain and increase your overall mood, happiness, and pleasure.
