Thank you to all of our veterans, past and present, for serving our country. We hope you were celebrated and felt appreciated not only yesterday but everyday. Here at sports enhancement we view veterans as true heros to our nation. We have our very own hero in this office. Dr. Dustman is pictured wearing his Army jacket. He served in the Army reserves, 1974-1982 as a Captain in the 553rd Hospital Unit. He is holding his father, Kenneth Dustman's, navy hat and flag that he was honored with at this passing. Kenneth served in the Navy as a Lieutenant in the south pacific in WWII on the frontlines from 1942-1945. Thank you for your service.

Orthopedic and Sports Enhancement Center is excited to announce the arrival of Dr. Tyler Neal! He will be joining our practice in late August 2020. Watch for further updates to schedule your appointment!

Dr. Tyler Neal was born and raised in Bloomington, IL. He is a Bloomington High School and Illinois Wesleyan University graduate. While at IWU, he played wide receiver for the football team and was a three-year letter winner. He also participated in Track and Field where he earned two letters, set multiple school records, and was selected MVP his senior year. Dr. Neal received a Master’s Degree in Biomedical Sciences from Barry University in Miami Shores, FL. He attended medical school at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine at the Bradenton, FL campus. At LECOM he was elected and served all four years as Class President. He was also selected into the Sigma Sigma Phi honors and service fraternity and was presented with the LECOM Leadership and Service Award after his fourth year.

Dr. Neal completed his orthopedic surgery residency training at St. Luke’s Des Peres Hospital in St. Louis, MO. His residency included orthopedic trauma training and pediatric orthopedics at SSM St. Louis University Hospital and SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital.

After residency, Dr. Neal went on to pursue additional training in orthopedic sports medicine at the prestigious San Diego Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine Fellowship Program. There, he had the privilege to train under the former head team physicians for the San Diego Chargers and the San Diego Padres. While in San Diego, he worked as a team physician for San Diego State University, the San Diego Gulls of the American Hockey League, as well as several local community colleges and high schools.

Dr. Neal has a special interest in arthroscopic, sports, and shoulder surgery. His fellowship provided him advanced training in sports medicine and minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery, as well as complex shoulder repair, reconstruction, and replacement.

Dr. Neal and his wife Sarah, also a Bloomington native, are honored to return home to the community that helped raise them. In his free time, Dr. Neal enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, working out, playing golf and watching sports.

Do you have severe heel or achilles pain that you cannot get rid of? What about shin splints, elbow tendinitis (tennis or golfers elbow), or knee tendinitis? How about a stress fracture? Well if so, shockwave treatment (extra corporeal pulse activated treatment, aka ā€œEPATā€) may be the right option for you.

Shockwave is a newer technology that gets results. In fact, a large number of scientific studies show an effectiveness rating of 80-90% complete pain relief even at the 1 year mark post treatment. The science behind this is that the instrument creates a new controlled injury to the painful area and ā€œtricksā€ the body into thinking there is something new going on. The body then responds with a healing response and increased blood flow to the area to initiate the healing of the painful part. But here is the best part about shockwave; there are no risks involved (unlike steroid injections), and it is widely performed on all sorts of athletes (Including Illinois State and Illinois Wesleyan) during their in season sport while they are able to continue to play. In fact, of all of the treatments available for tendinitis or soft tissue pain, such as steroid injections, bracing, activity modification, and anti-inflammatory medications to name a few, shockwave has the most research behind it, and gets the best satisfaction among patients. So next time you have an ache or pain that you cannot cure, give shockwave therapy a try! Our goal is to get you back to the activity or sport you love!

For further details or to make an appointment for shockwave treatment, call OSEC today!

Happy working anniversary to Dr. Dustman and Tammy! FORTY YEARS!!!! 40 years, a million working hours, thousands of laughs, maybe some tears, all went into creating an inseparable bond. From colleagues to family, they have built a professional relationship out of complete trust for one another that blossomed into a deep respect for one another and they ultimately became family. So what did they have to say about their relationship?

Tammy: ā€œI’m so grateful to him, he sets a new standard for respect, the worlds greatest boss and mentor, I idolized him back then, and still do to this day. I could go on foreverā€

Dr. Dustman: ā€œ she is so gentle in what she does, and one of the hardest workers I have ever seen. She is so kind, not only to patients but everyone she encounters. She truly is a delight to be around and I’m blessed to have been able to for 40 years.ā€

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! Thank you for making OSEC great!!!!!!

Happy National Athletic Training Month to one our AT’s Matt!

ā€œI enjoy being an Athletic Trainer because I like the athletes and the coaches at each school. I enjoy covering athletic competitions and seeing athletes compete. Most importantly, I enjoy being able to help the athletes in the event of an injury and see them progress to full recovery.ā€

Matt brings 25 years of experience to our team and currently works at Tri-Valley High School and assists with coverage at El Paso Gridley High School and Heyworth High School. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training and Master’s degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation from Illinois State University. The worst injury he has seen is a ruptured spleen!

Outside of work, Matt enjoys fishing and golfing.

Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to being an AT. We are thankful to have you on our team!
