Today, on National Su***de Prevention Day, we want to continue to offer our deepest condolences to all victims of Mental Illness and our endless support to those continuing to fight their daily battles. Never be afraid to reach out for help, there is always another route to happiness and su***de is the only permanent consequence. We will continue to fundraise and lobby for psychological counseling for everyone, regardless of their income, and foster a culture of awareness and intervention.
Specifically, we’d like to take a moment to remember our late brother Nic “Tex” Smith, who’s spirit remains strong from Plano to Indiana, and has kickstarted a movement greater than any individual. His little brother Stuart Smith said “As Nic’s little brother, I really want to say some words on National Su***de Prevention day. From losing my big brother to su***de, the thing I want most is for people to reach out to friends and family, even those who seem the strongest hearted, checking on them and making sure everything is okay. Talking about su***de and preventing it isn’t something to be ashamed of. Never be scared to reach out, it only helps. ”
Attached are just a few of the many routes you or your loved ones can take to receive immediate help. We also encourage all students to utilize their free counseling sessions offered at their university health center. Financial support is often available where needed, and reaching out to a friend is always free.
We are always taking donations to benefit both the National Alliance for Mental Illness and Indiana University’s CAPS. Thank you again to all those who have contributed, and more support can be given below through our link
