🎄 Holiday Safety Tip from CPR BTown 🎄
If you have a real tree, keep it well-watered! A dry tree can become a serious fire risk. Checking the water daily is a simple step that helps keep your home and loved ones safe this holiday season. ❤️

The holiday season is full of joy — but it also brings some common health and safety risks that can turn the celebrations upside down. Medscape’s 12 Dangers of Christmas highlights how everyday holiday traditions can lead to injuries or emergencies if we’re not careful.

Watch out for things like:
• Decorations & lights — trip and electrical hazards.
• Fire risks from trees, candles, and fireplaces.
• Kitchen injuries, burns, and food-related illness.
• Small parts & batteries in toys posing choking dangers.
• Excessive alcohol intake increasing risk of cardiac issues.
• Cold weather hazards and slips/falls.

Our tip: Being aware and prepared — including knowing CPR — can make all the difference this season. Early action saves lives!

Stay safe, and have a happy holiday from CPR BTown! 🎅✨

Echoing the 12 Days of Christmas, this festive guide outlines the seasonal risks clinicians can help patients avoid.

We loved spending time with the Jewish Theatre of Bloomington and Windfall Dancers as they completed CPR training with CPR BTown!

Both organizations are dedicated to creativity, expression, and building inclusive, welcoming community spaces. By adding CPR skills to their toolkits, they’re taking an important step to ensure the safety and well-being of their performers, audiences, and participants—on and off the stage.

These classes were made possible through the generosity of the Sophia Travis Grant, funded by the Monroe County Council. We’re grateful for this support and proud to help empower local arts organizations with lifesaving skills.

CPR BTown was honored to train the first installment of team members from Monroe County CASA, Inc. Indiana and the Jewish Theatre of Bloomington in First Aid/CPR! These organizations serve our community in powerful ways, and we’re grateful they chose to strengthen their safety readiness with us.

This training was made possible thanks to the Monroe County Council through the Sophia Travis Grant, which helps local nonprofits access lifesaving skills and preparation.

We’re proud to support the people who support our community.

Preventing heart disease means making smart choices now that will pay off the rest of your life.

Lack of exercise, a poor diet and other unhealthy habits can take their toll over the years. But anyone at any age can take simple steps to keep their heart healthy during every decade. Here’s how.

‘Tis the season for celebration — and also a time to be mindful of your heart.

The holidays can bring extra stress, richer foods, higher alcohol intake, and disrupted routines. Together, these can contribute to Holiday Heart, a condition where people experience irregular heart rhythms, even without a history of heart issues.

As you enjoy time with loved ones, be sure to watch for the warning signs of a heart attack:

Chest pressure, tightness, or pain
Pain in the arm, back, neck, or jaw
Shortness of breath
Nausea or lightheadedness
Sudden fatigue or cold sweats

If something feels “off,” don’t wait. Call 911 immediately. Quick action saves lives.
Take care of yourself this season — slow down, stay hydrated, and listen to your body. Your heart will thank you.

We were thrilled to welcome the incredible team from Bloomington Center for Global Children to a CPR/First Aid course with CPR BTown. Their mission — to nurture children in a safe, diverse, and globally-minded learning environment — shines through in everything they do. By choosing to strengthen their emergency preparedness skills, they’re taking yet another meaningful step to protect the children and families they serve every day.

We’re also deeply grateful to the Monroe County Council for making this training possible through Sophia Travis Grant funding. Their support helps ensure that vital, life-saving skills are accessible to organizations across our community.

Thank you, BCGC, for your dedication to safety, compassion, and global citizenship. And thank you, Monroe County Council, for investing in a safer Bloomington.
