In recent weeks, the release of the Epstein files has brought stories of sexual assault and abuse back into the national conversation. For many survivors, seeing these headlines and discussions can be overwhelming, triggering, or deeply painful. If you or someone you care about is struggling right now, you are not aloneโand there is support and hope.

Itโs natural to experience a wide range of emotions when stories of sexual assault are widely discussed. You might feel sadness, anger, anxiety, or even numbness. These reactions are valid. Remember, healing is not a linear process, and itโs okay to take care of yourself in whatever way you need.

Limit Media Exposure: Itโs okay to step back from the news and social media. Protecting your mental health is important.
Reach Out for Support: Connect with trusted friends, family members, or a therapist who can offer understanding and care.
Practice Self-Compassion: Be gentle with yourself. Allow yourself to rest, feel your emotions, and seek comfort in activities that help you feel safe.
Grounding Techniques: Mindfulness, yoga, time in nature, or grounding exercises are known to help manage overwhelming feelings.

If someone you know is struggling, your support can make a difference:
Know that your person may be struggling and check-in.
Listen without judgment or pressure.
Offer reassurance that their feelings are valid.
Respect their choices about how much they want to share or what steps they want to take. Ask how you can be supportive.
Encourage professional help if they are open to it. There are excellent treatments available to reduce distress.
