Get all those delicious reds, blue and purple fruits, veggies and even some grains In your diet to help improve the diversity of your microbiome and keep you healthy.

Feeding your microbiome to restore good bacterial populations is a crucial undertaking following SIBO treatment but also for other conditions involving microbiome imbalance.
Certain plant-based foods contain polyphenols, which promote microbial diversity in the gut.
Polyphenols are brightly coloured phytochemicals found in fruits, vegetables and grains mostly commonly red, blue or purple in colour. These bright coloured foods are great for your immunity and can help your gut health too.
Make sure you get them organic!!

Polyphenol Rich Foods
🍇Fruits - Black elderberries, black currants, blueberries, cherries, strawberries, blackberries, plums, raspberries, red apples, black grapes

🥔Nuts & Seeds - Flaxseed meal, chestnuts, hazelnuts, pecans, black tahini

🥕Vegetables - Purple carrots, red carrots, purple/red potatoes, red cabbage, spinach, red onions, broccoli, carrots (orange), red lettuce

🍞Grains - Red rice, black rice, red and black quinoa, whole grain rye bread (sourdough)

Other – Black olives and olive oil

plant based foods are also rich in prebiotic fibre, an added benefit for restoring the microbiome
Try to get at least 10 or more different plant based, polyphenol rich foods in your diet every day

Cholesterol is not all bad. Cholesterol has important roles in the body so being on a diet that is too low in fat and cholesterol is not always a good thing for everyone. The way a person eats must be personalized to a person's medical history, genetics and genomics.

💁🏻‍♀️ We often hear about how bad cholesterol is and that it is important to drive cholesterol down.
But did you know cholesterol can actually get TOO low and when that happens, it can negatively affect health? 🙅🏻‍♀️
Cholesterol has many important roles in the body:
👉🏼 Building block for vitamin D
👉🏼 Is the backbone to your hormones estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone.
👉🏼 It is the scaffolding for all the cells in your body to keep toxins out of the cell and nutrients in.
👉🏼 Is a building block of bile- a critical digestive element that helps you digest fats, detox, and acts as an antimicrobial to prevent overgrowth of bacteria.
💁🏻‍♀️ Maintain healthy cholesterol levels by eating pasture-raised eggs 🥚, pasture raised meats 🥩, coconut oil 🥥, coconut butter 🧈, pasture-raised butter and ghee.

Helping someone lose weight by not making it a "diet," but making healthy eating a way of life is always the goal. Here is one of my patients recent experience that she wanted to share.
Losing weight has always been and will always been a life long battle for me. I’ve been on weight watchers, weight loss pills, south beach diet, plant based diet… you name it, I’ve probably done it. These last few months have been different though. I was at a stand still with losing weight and the 18 lbs I had lost on the plant based diet was creeping back up…. plant based was just not cutting it for me. I wanted cheese, beer, meat, oil, everything I crave that I had been missing out on. I also wanted something to help me reach my goals and keep it off. I didn’t want another diet that I was going to lose and then gain back all my weight. I wanted a realistic lifestyle change. I contacted Anita Dock Nutrition Counseling in February to see what her approach to weight loss was. We immediately hit it off and she explained how she could help me reach my goals in a realistic and attainable way but not by being on a diet… by changing my lifestyle for good.
This is 30….pounds down! Feeling the best I’ve ever felt and incredibly happy 🥰. Cheers to a happy and healthy lifestyle.
