Today's post was a recent suggestion and a little something new for us.

Today's GIVEN NAME review in our family is Adeline

How many times has it been used in our family?

Birth Year 1843 and 1919
Our 1st Adeline was born in 1843
Our 2nd Adeline was born in 1919

Meaning (because I am always curious) It is of Old German origin meaning NOBLE. Adeline was introduced to England by the Normans in the eleventh century, was very common during the Middle Ages, then vanished until the Victorian Gothic revival.

Interesting . . . .

Blue-eyed humans come from a single common ancestor . . . . or so they seem to say.

"Originally, we all had brown eyes," said Professor Hans Eiberg from the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine. "But a genetic mutation affecting the OCA2 gene in our chromosomes resulted in the creation of a "switch," which literally "turned off" the ability to produce brown eyes." The OCA2 gene codes for the so-called P protein, which is involved in the production of melanin, the pigment that gives colour to our hair, eyes and skin. The "switch," which is located in the gene adjacent to OCA2 does not, however, turn off the gene entirely, but rather limits its action to reducing the production of melanin in the iris -- effectively "diluting" brown eyes to blue. The switch's effect on OCA2 is very specific therefore. If the OCA2 gene had been completely destroyed or turned off, human beings would be without melanin in their hair, eyes or skin colour -- a condition known as albinism.

New research shows that people with blue eyes have a single, common ancestor. Scientists have tracked down a genetic mutation which took place 6,000-10,000 years ago and is the cause of the eye color of all blue-eyed humans alive on the planet today.

2nd photo is from approx 1918 or so, I think.

3rd photo - Mary Elizabeth is in the center with her husband (James Robert Jones aka Dock) - photo has a date on it of 1898. Note: this is scan of a very old photo on glass.

4th photo - I have the date for this photo somewhere in my notes and will update it as I find the info.

Today's Photo is a nice surprise for us . . . . or at least me.

So it has been awhile since I found this, but I wanted to check with some family members before I posted.

Someone replaced our Great Great Grandmother's headstone.!!! And it wasn't me . . . nor any of my immediate aunts or uncles. . . . . hmmmm.

I would like to know who it was so I could give them a" hug around the neck" to quote our grandmother, Mariam Thomas Jones aka Nanny
