Senior highlight: Sweet Midnight.
She was born June 2015 and from a breeder by the last name of Mauk. She is AKC registered.
She was owned by a woman who moved out of state. She left Midnight with her sister here in Indiana.
Without knowing if the plan was for the sister to surrender her to a city shelter, Mifnight was surrendered.
Can you imagine being loved by a dog for 11 years and walking away from them? Worse, put them in danger in an over-crowded shelter. And yes, poor Midnight did get an upper respiratory infection because this is a common ailment on high volume shelters. This is dangerous for a senior dog.
So she was betrayed, dumped, and became sick. What a life!
I just know someone out there is going to try and justify the actions of the owner. “Maybe she couldn’t take her with her.” “She may have had a mental illness” or “You shouldn’t judge people since you don’t know what their issue was.”
Well, to those people I say, I have a right to complain because I am caring for their dogs. I’m the one to hold them while they gasp for their last breath. Do you know that is the most heartbreaking moment for me when they are euthanized? To hold them thinking how they probably wonder where the person, they loved so deeply, is? It’s the ultimate betrayal.
I see the confusion and heartbreak on the faces when I place them in my car from the shelter. All these dogs were once so valued and loved as a cute pup, now worthless to them.
And I’ll add this, the same people who try and justify these people’s actions of people getting rid of their pets, are also the problem. It’s this victim-celebration and coddling that is making everything worse. Oh, not for them, but for those who are willing to right the wrongs and heal the hurt.
I have over 60 dogs who apparently had the same kind of owner. How is it possible that so many people can’t figure out how to honor a commitment? I’m one rescue/shelter! There are countless others who are also full.
We have a serious epidemic of convenience-addicted humans and they all apparently have pets they “just don’t have time for.”
At some point, the world is going to run out of the workers and picking-up-the-pieces humans, and all that will be left, are the lazy people. They will be forced to try and figure out just how to get one more ounce of blood from the next turnip, I suppose.
Lastly, to those who have seniors and are grateful for every remaining day with them, I applaud you and respect you immensely. Thank you for being a decent person.
