Concussion recovery can feel incredibly frustrating.

One day you feel hopeful.
The next day symptoms spike again.

It’s easy to start wondering:

“Why am I not better yet?”

But concussion recovery rarely moves in a straight line.

Some days will feel awful.
Some will feel hopeful.

Both are part of healing.

Progress isn’t measured by perfect days.
It’s measured by continuing forward.

Recovery isn’t a race. It’s a process.

If you know someone going through concussion recovery, share this with them. They may need to hear this today.

And if this message helped you, save it for the harder days.

Concussion recovery isn’t a straight line.

One of the hardest parts of early recovery is finding the balance between doing too much and not doing enough.

And here’s the frustrating truth:

You can do the exact same plan for ten days…
and feel ten completely different ways.

That doesn’t mean recovery isn’t happening.

The brain is adapting, healing, and responding to stress, sleep, activity, light, movement, emotions, and energy levels — all at the same time.

Recovery is rarely predictable.

But with the right guidance, it can become manageable.

You’re not doing it wrong.
You’re navigating a complex injury.

That’s what concussion recovery looks like.

Comparison is the thief of joy.

And during concussion recovery, comparison can be one of the most damaging things we do.

Your brain heals on its own timeline.

Not on someone else’s recovery story.
Not on a social media timeline.
Not on the expectations in your own head.

The meanest voice we often hear is the one between our ears telling us:

“I should be further along.”
“Why am I still dealing with this?”
“Everyone else seems to recover faster.”

But recovery doesn’t happen in straight lines.

Some days are harder.
Some days feel like setbacks.

But every step is still progress.

Stay positive.
Stay patient.
Stay focused on your own path.

Because healing happens when we work with the brain — not against it.

Your brain is the computer of your body.

It regulates vision, balance, sleep, heart rate, emotions, thinking, and more.

When a concussion disrupts the brain…
it doesn’t just affect your head.

It can disrupt communication throughout the entire body.

That’s why concussion recovery isn’t just about rest.

Recovery means restoring communication between the brain and the systems it controls.

Understanding this is the first step toward real recovery.

Concussion recovery is a 24/7 job.

Even when it doesn’t look like it.

Your brain is working while you sleep.
Your brain is working while you rest.
Your brain is working when you feel like you “did nothing.”

So when someone says:

“All I did today was go to work… and now I feel awful.”

That’s not nothing.

That’s progress.

Concussion recovery isn’t about perfect days.
It’s about small, consistent steps that move the big picture forward.

A short walk.
Answering a few emails.
Getting through a workday.
Taking a break when symptoms spike.

Those are wins.

And one more thing…

The meanest voice in concussion recovery is usually the one between our ears.

Comparing yourself today to who you were before the injury is an unfair fight.

Healing takes time.
Give yourself credit for the work you’re doing.

Because recovery is work.

And you’re doing it every single day.

Celebrate the small wins. They matter more than you think.

Concussions aren’t just a head injury.

They’re an energy crisis in the brain.

After a concussion, things like:

• Conversations
• Driving
• Work
• Bright lights
• Screens

suddenly become huge energy drains.

So if you try to push through your day like normal…

Your brain will eventually force you to stop.

Recovery isn’t about doing nothing.

It’s about learning how to budget your brain’s energy.

To avoid years of difficulty down the road -
Mario stopped hitting boxes with his head and switched to his hand!

Be like Mario and avoid hitting your head on blocks just for a few coins.

Happy Mar10 Day!

Trying to push through a concussion can make symptoms worse.

Your brain will fight back.

🧠 Headaches
🧠 Brain fog
🧠 Dizziness
🧠 Fatigue

Recovery isn’t about toughness.

It’s about working with the brain — not against it.

Because:

Mind over matter works…
until the mind is what’s the matter.

Most people underestimate how powerful sunlight is for brain health.

But something as simple as stepping outside for a few minutes can help:

☀️ Regulate your body’s energy production
☀️ Reset your sleep-wake cycle
☀️ Improve mood and mental health

And the best part?

You don’t need a workout.
You don’t need a routine.

Even sitting in a chair outside in the sunshine can be more beneficial for your brain than sitting inside under artificial light.

Sometimes recovery isn’t about doing more.

Sometimes it’s about changing the environment your brain is in.

Share this with someone who could use a reminder to get outside today.

Concussions affect more than just the brain.

Because the brain controls nearly every system in the body, an injury can affect things like:

• vision
• balance
• heart rate
• digestion
• sleep
• thinking and concentration

That’s why concussion symptoms often feel confusing or unrelated.

But they’re not.

When the brain is injured, the whole body can feel it.

Understanding that connection is an important step in recovery.
