🍒Breast implant infection… what happens next?
Breast implant infections are uncommon but they do happen. When they do, they can feel scary and overwhelming.
Sometimes patients notice increasing pain instead of improvement, redness that keeps spreading, swelling, warmth, fever, or drainage from the incision. Other times, the breast just “doesn’t feel right.” These changes should never be ignored.
Treatment depends on how early the infection is recognized and how severe it is. In some cases, antibiotics and very close follow-up are enough. In others, we may need to return to the operating room to wash the area, and occasionally remove the implant temporarily to allow the body to fully heal before reconstruction.
If you are recovering from breast surgery and something worries you, reach out to your surgeon. It is always better to check.
Healing is a process and good outcomes come from partnership, trust, and timely care.
