This week’s Embryo of the Week, we’re showing an example of a lower-quality embryo.

💬 Haley walks us through what we’re seeing here: fragmentation, which can signal cellular stress, along with a less-defined inner cell mass (the part that becomes the baby) and a trophectoderm with fewer cells (which forms the placenta). These features help us understand an embryo’s potential for continued development. While this embryo made it to Day 7, it isn’t suitable for biopsy or freezing.

At Boca Fertility, we’re intentional about the embryos we select. Being selective helps give you the strongest possible chance of achieving a healthy pregnancy and growing your family.

What does an abnormal SIS look like? 🔬

In this video, our PA Wendy explains how providers identify abnormalities during a saline infusion sonohysterogram (SIS).

During the exam, a small amount of sterile saline is introduced into the uterus while ultrasound imaging is performed. The fluid gently expands the uterine cavity so its shape and structure can be clearly evaluated.

When an SIS is abnormal, a “filling defect” may appear within the fluid-filled space. This can indicate the presence of a fibroid, polyp, or other structural change inside the uterus.

In some cases, these findings can impact fertility. If needed, your provider may recommend a minor surgical procedure to remove the abnormality and restore the normal shape of the uterine cavity.

The goal is simple: clearer answers and a treatment plan designed around you.

Embryo of the Week 🧬✨

Here’s a look at Day 3 embryos, a key milestone in development.

At Boca Fertility, we don’t assign grades at this stage, but we love giving you a behind-the-scenes glimpse of their progress.

Right now, these embryos are in the cleavage stage, actively dividing as they work toward reaching 6–10 cells by Day 3. Each division marks important progress as they continue developing toward the blastocyst stage.

Curious about your embryos or next steps? Our team is here to guide you every step of the way.

What does a normal SIS result look like? 🔬

In this video, our PA Wendy walks through a normal saline infusion sonohysterogram (SIS) and what providers look for during the exam.

During the procedure, a small amount of sterile saline is gently introduced into the uterus while ultrasound imaging is performed. The saline expands the uterine cavity so your provider can clearly evaluate its shape and structure.

In a normal SIS, the fluid fills the uterus smoothly and evenly—without any “filling defects.”

That means no signs of polyps, fibroids, scar tissue, or other abnormalities inside the uterine cavity.

This simple test can provide important insight when building a thoughtful, personalized fertility plan.

✨ Clear answers lead to confident next steps.

Exciting research spotlight 🌟

Dr. Margolis was recently featured in a publication in Reproductive BioMedicine Online. 📑

The study found that experiencing a biochemical or clinical pregnancy loss after a first frozen embryo transfer (FET) does not increase the risk of pregnancy loss in a subsequent transfer, offering reassuring news for patients continuing their fertility journey.

Advancing fertility care through research that helps guide patients with evidence-based insight every step of the way.

Embryo of the week follow up with Sam🔬✨

Inside a single shell were two eggs. One was mature (called an M2) and the other was immature, known as a GV (germinal vesicle).

Our embryology team injected the mature egg, and it successfully fertilized and developed into a blastocyst. As it grew, the blast actually expanded into the space where the immature egg had been.

Although neither embryo was frozen for future use, moments like this give us a fascinating look into how early development can unfold in the IVF lab.

Every embryo teaches us something new and every cycle brings us closer to helping families grow. 🤍

A closer look at fertility testing!

In this video, our PA Wendy performs a saline infusion sonohysterogram ( ) and walks through what the procedure looks like.

An SIS helps your provider evaluate the inside of the uterus and identify things like polyps, fibroids, or scar tissue that could impact fertility.

Here’s how it works:

First, a speculum is placed and the cervix is gently cleansed.
A small, flexible catheter is then passed into the uterus.
Sterile saline is slowly introduced while ultrasound imaging is performed.

The saline expands the uterine cavity so we can get a clearer view of the uterine lining and structure.

It’s a quick procedure that provides valuable insight when building a personalized fertility plan.

✨ Knowledge is power when it comes to your fertility.
