Many of you have called the office with questions regarding the ZIKA virus. As you may know, the virus is mosquito borne and has recently been discovered in Miami. As of today, the virus has only been identified in mosquitoes found in the Wynwood section of Miami, from about NW 20th St till NW 40th St and from HWY 95 to the ocean. If you do not live or work in this area you do not have to be concerned about being infected.
That being said, it is recommended that you take the following precautions to prevent getting bitten by mosquitoes that may carry Zika, especially if you are pregnant. Wear long sleeves and pants, use insect repellent containing DEET (like OFF) and do not go outside at dawn and dusk. If you follow these simple precautions you will have a Zika free pregnancy. I will post any new updates as they come in from the Health Department. If you or your partner live or work in Wynwood and you are pregnant or considering getting pregnant in the near future please call my office to discuss your options.
Stay safe, stay healthy,
Dr Heering
